    getting pretty patchy around here.

Skied Wild Child at Loveland this AM. At this point, you can creatively ski from the top of Wild Child to the bottom of Chair 4 with maybe a total of 100-yards of walking. But this will change soon!

    I thought it was nice!

I checked out the Aurum in Snowmass for Happy Hour. It was decent, nice vibe with live music.

Temps have been downright pleasant here. I could go for this all summer.

Nice soaker last night. I'm down for some monsoonal moisture for the rest of the season. Tacky morning trails.

Spent the weekend in Salida, went to the Sand Dunes Saturday and had some river time today. Rained so hard yesterday at the Dunes, all the way back to Salida, and today in BV all the way to Pine Jct. So great to have all this moisture.

I love it! This is how we stay not on fire and maybe...just maybe...start working our way out of this long term drought. The hydrologists have been talking about "paying back the soil" and that the ground has to go though a few soaking cycles before it can act like a sponge again.

That said, 125 is closed for mudslides and many camping areas are a swampy mess. Skeeters are world class and pine pollen is off the hook. Lets pray for some gully washers Thursday and Friday afternoon during camp set up time.

Just glad AZ and NM are also getting it. Managed to get on wheeler trail yesterday morning before the rain came in, south portion is fully good to go.

I could be wrong, but summer rains rarely get us “Out” of a drought. We need a big winter for that. But I’ll take the rain as long as the air stays nice and clear like it has been.

It'd take a very wet summer to make a noticeable difference. That said, part of our issues are things like soil moisture contents, which this does help with.

This has been the coolest and most pleasant late spring/early summer I can remember in 4-5 years at least, probably more.

Both of those are correct, summer rain isn't going to provide nearly enough to get us out of a drought, because they don't make a significant dent in our reservoir levels. That said, they do help with fire danger (although sometimes they help the wrong way, as they encourage growth and then when we get a month without rain, all that growth becomes fuel). And they do help with soil moisture, which is a huge problem with this drought. We have had "normal" years of precip/snow that have still resulted in low runoff because the soils are so dry.

Question for you folks from a PNWer here. Visting for this 4th weekend as was planning on doing some biking (Boulder Left Hand Canyon road bike, then Monarch Crest outta Salida).

My buddy wants to start all our rides at 10am, but I'm kinda keen to try and get out early cause of the afternoon T-storms. How much pushing should I do to him? Early morning starts are kinda annoying for us because of a bike rental for him so we'd have to pick it up the night before (more expensive and fucks with our evening schedules), but I'm not well versed on the monsoon strength.

Start earlier for the Crest. Above treeline + lightning = no bueno. NOAA is currently saying 80-90% chance of thunderstorms after noon on Sat and Sun.

Lefthand you can probably get away with a later start.

You want to start as early as possible.
It’s light enough to ride a little after 5.

For Lefthand I'd leave early to avoid heat more than thunderstorms.

Um, has no one mentioned density of humans? That is another reason to leave at the butt crack. And you have more time in the sun afterwards to have beers. And I would not want to be anywhere near lots of dead trees in a thunder/hail/rain storm this time of year.

10:00 is probably pushing it for LH. You’ll want to be back down by around noon, and for my mediocre climbing pace, that’s hitting the bottom of the canyon at 9:00. Descending it in a rain storm is not fun. Be sure to budget time for a stop at the general store in Ward.

Agreed with the above on LH. There’s a spring to refill your bottles just as you’re getting into Ward and it’s cold and delicious!

You didn’t do it unless you get to the peak to peak hwy.

Too bad 7 to Lyons is closed that’s a ver cool loop.

The road through Jamestown to make it a lollipop was on good shape last I was there maybe two weeks ago. I was in a truck but i would have taken my touring bike down (or up) it. Mill site has ok food, cold beer.

Guessing U got a map or book or some such lol so I’ll stop. Have fun!!

How I managed it the last few times I’ve done it, hehehe:
