If you have flexibility, ski weekdays. Epic Local is good combined with other 4 packs.

Avoid Breck and Vail on weekends...other VR mtns aren't as bad. Although generally if you get through the zoo at each resort's base area, shit opens up if you're smart.

Aspens are slow here and don't seem as bright. Another week or two for peak probably.

Aspens in CB are strange... sections are gone and plenty are still green, all at the same elevation. I'd say this weekend is probably "peak", but next week should be damn good too.

Serious answer CLSurf, you should consider what type of terrain you like and buy a pass that allows you to access a high percentage of that terrain.
Ex. if you like wide open bowls, don't get an Eldora or Route 40 pass, go to Loveland or Breck.
Crowds and snowfall will not matter much if you find the hill to be lame.

there was precious little planning and no worrying.

I rode. It was good. There were leaves.

    What would you choose between:
    Loveland
Epic (Local, Summit County Value, or just Keystone and Abasin)
    RMSP
    ?????

What passes are you guys skiing this year?

Truth. I mean, many of my friends adore Loveland, and I could make do with the place if I had to, but it would be very far from my first choice. The long, slow, windy as fuck lifts to ski mostly flat terrain would drive me crazy. I would spend all my time on lift 1 (or 9 if/when it opened), the rest would bug the crap out of me, and those would bore me quickly (but I love the place for a change of pace pow day).

But when it comes to multi-resort passes like Epic or RMSP, it's more about vibe and ancillary details like traffic for me, because each pass offers enough in terrain that I'd be fine.

I have been a RMSP guy for a few years, mostly because of traffic and it being easier for my family.

This thread long ago became the "anything to do with Colorado, with an occasional focus on the weather" thread.

Both RMSP and Epic Local have benefits but I prefer Epic local for 3 important reasons.

    ABasin
    The high alpine at Breck
    Beaver Creek.

Everything else is pretty meh but in my opinion those 3 things are way better than anything on the RMSP

I would agree that those are the big sellers (some might add Vail).

For me, the RMSP benefits are
trees at MJ, along with much lower hassle there (free parking, much less traffic, etc)
Options for travel further afield (Crested Butte, Steamboat)
A Summit County option and a non-I-70 option (Copper and Eldo)

But honestly, I buy the RMSP+ every year and mostly just ski WP/MJ.

I love Copper and CB though. But WP and Steamboat never did it for me.

They're all great hills, a few may be amazing in some eyes (CB & Steamboat in mine), no correct answer.
I wouldn't be kicking and screaming if I ended up at any of 'em.
I sure would like Beaver Creek & Vail more if they weren't 100 miles away, on a demolition derby highway, full of jabronis and a parking shitshow.
Pretty settled in my RMSP & Silverton / Utah trip ways

In keeping with this standard, just wanted to share the story of a dog that ran off with another pup from it's house near the Mt. Bross trailhead and failed to return. That was 6 weeks ago on August 11th. Yesterday, some hikers heard a dog crying and wimpering down off the steep, north side of Bross, but couldn't locate it. Today, some people went back, found the dog and brought it down. It was found on a large rock in a cliffed-out section and they speculate it had been there for the entire time. Poor pup was in pretty rough shape, but doing okay from what I heard.

Happy endings aren't always just found at Asian massage parlors.

    Old's Cool.

    Obviously you're not a golfer.
