I'd say you've got about even odds of things being either really good or fucking awful.

My hesitation with that timing would be the possibility of lack of open terrain. Summit and Eagle County resorts.
unless it's a terrible year, most stuff should be open, but the steeper stuff is likely pretty bony. He should go for it, so long as he doesn't have crazy expectations.

Nice thing about SW, if it sucks, rebook. Just have him reserve a rental car and nothing else.

Any Durango area mags know of an open 1 or 2 bedroom rental in town or within comfortable bike distance of town? Moving that way (October 1 move in date or thereabouts) but hard to find housing (duh) while not in town.

And no, this hasn't been weather-related, but I'm on a road trip, so I can tell you it is rainy and overcast currently in Hoquiam, WA.

Turns out ski season isn’t the only time you have to wait on ridiculously long lines at Abasin...

Hopefully Oktoberfest was not an indication of what’s to come this winter.

It wasn’t the amount of people, it was the slow service. We couldn’t figure out why it was taking so long to give people a beer and stein with brat.

I would say bad planning more than anything. They only had two cash registers and two beer taps for the entire event. Should have at least had a full beer tent (it was Oktoberfest after all) and then a couple others for food.

Oh well - at least it was a beautiful day up there.

Skied the Fourth of July Bowl patches yesterday. Suncupped heaven. Last ski of the ‘18-19 season.

My latest seasonal forecast is looking hopeful for Colorado over this winter. Though Colorado may not be getting the snowfalls that places like Montana are getting this week, Winter is on the horizon.

Decent snowfalls for Western Colorado in the short term.

I noticed OpenSnow did a recent article where they reviewed last year’s long range forecasts, and essentially decided that they were generally useless. What’s your view on that? I’d be interested in another opinion.

    Nope

Yeah, I'll take our indian summer to avoid the dreaded depth hoarz that might plague MT after that storm. Will be interesting to see if there's any affect for them if it doesn't melt off before more snow arrives.

After last season, almost anything will be a letdown.

The mountains I live in are always covered in powder. If by powder you mean Texans and Frangers, and by always you mean always.
