If I had fuck you money I'd have built fewer ski runs and more bike trails up there, but that's just me.

One of the comments mentions the land is part of the CO State Land Trust... if that's true, I don't think the project has a chance. If it's truly private land, then they just have to overcome all the NIMBYism of their neighbors.

Correct, the state owns the land.

I'm looking forward to hearing the reports from this weekend, I really like to ski, but still on the DL from the ACL reconstruction so will just be following along for enjoyment here and you know what, this place never disappoints.

That’s fucking crazy and sad. Maybe opening a trail that’s solid ice is a bad idea?

Not sure if its been posted, but opensnow now will require a paid subscription to read forecasts. I would guess this will be a good thing for overall crowding on powder days, since that website will not be the hype machine it has been since only a tiny fraction of current users will continue to use it.

Joel Gratz should probably do some research on historically ad-supported free services when they convert to paid subscription only. Anyone here still use photobucket?

Open Snow and I-70 Things should merge.

Frankly, folks should join the Friends of CAIC and get the better forecast. http://avalanche.state.co

I'd make an argument that "free" sites are the ones that suck the most...see Facebook as example #1 of a site that would improve if people had to pay for it. The news sites that you pay for improved dramatically also.

CAIC models are great short-term snowfall and heavily relied on by most outlets like Opensnow. But for free snow forecasting, broader picture discussions of trend/dynamics/uncertainty I think Seth Linden and Durango Weather dude are both awesome resources.

$30 per year - whatever. If you value the service, it's a drop in the bucket.
I'm a little down on OS lately, it seems the CO Daily, the foundational content of that site, is totally "mailed in". We'll see if anything changes.

Not to worry, CDOT came out with a new app that works pretty good.

Maybe already posted here, but if not... Chris started a good podcast with San Juan Snowcast (https://www.instagram.com/sanjuansnowcast/). It posts about once a week and is a good general listen, even though I'm front range. And good way to stay in the loop on the SJ conditions since I try to get out there 2-3 times in the winter/spring.
Each podcast is about 15 mins.
Maybe worth its own post in the Snow & Weather section
