Is it really that sweet of a deal? If you end up skiing 4 days at mountain collective resorts @ $80-90/day (1/2 off full ticket price) then wouldn't you have been better off just getting the full Mountain Collective pass instead? I guess its a good perk if you ski less than 3 days at other resorts, otherwise seems like a bit of window dressing.

The math works out in my favor, perhaps not for others.

How far up the road to Peak 10/July 4th Bowl can one reasonably go with a stock 4Runner?

And in terms of the 2019-20 Winter Outlook, so the countdown begins:
    https://longrangesnowcenter.net/201...-seasonal-2019-20-winter-preliminary-outlook/

Western US outlook looks pretty good at this very early stage.

It’s been a few years, but I’ve driven my stock tundra to the top of mercury lift. Then walked the old road to the top of peak 10.

I’d love to hear about that adventure in September.

Years ago I drove my Subie to the top of Mercury then hiked to the top of Peak 10. However, that was 14 years ago and I cannot remember how bad the road is from Mercury to the base of July 4th Bowl. Going to give it a go next week in my friend’s stock 4Runner.

I parked at the top of Mercury last year and mountain biked up. Pretty sure a stock 4R could go at least to the intersection with Wheeler Trail. Probably further, but I turned at Wheeler.

That’s good, thanks. We won’t be going up the final switchbacks to the ridge, so we should ok, as I think it flattens our past the Wheeler Trail before those switchbacks.

Stock 4runner was good to go pretty high up, as far people were driving on the 4th of July on a low snow year anyway

    Fix typo

That's exactly what is looks like. Not the poster and wasn't with him/her, but I hiked up to Skyscraper and skied down just a couple of weeks prior from Rollins. The snow field at King Lake was intact all the way from the trail to the water's edge. In retrospect, I should have just done multiple laps there instead of making my hike much longer for an additional 200 feet of vertical or so.

^^^ yep. King Lake. A week ago you could drop off the Divide and make it to the shore with one 10’ rocky segment in between patches. Recommend a fly rod for the lake. Some fisherman said there are huge cutties in there.

I got all the way a few weeks ago. Be ready to throw it into 4 low for at least one section.

Great shot - had Audubon's summit to myself yesterday for almost a half hour, rare event at such a busy mountain. The pikas were busy packing away for winter, and the alpine is browned over - the high country is ready to roll. Maybe we'll get that dusting that Gratz teased to get everybody fired up.Click image for larger version.

Question for the Colorado crew. My friend wants to take advantage of good fares on Southwest in early January into Denver. I know no one has a crystal ball, but in general are conditions good at that time? It would be something like January 8-12. My hesitation with that timing would be the possibility of lack of open terrain. Summit and Eagle County resorts.

Everything is usually pretty good by then. Some years suck, but you'll still find good fun terrain to ski by that time of year. Or you'll spend more time at the local pubs.

Terrain should be mostly open. Seems like we sometimes go through a little dry spell in January but this year is going to be epic so shouldn’t be an issue.
