Ok. Highlands was fucking off-the-hook yesterday. Got there as they were opening mushroom/luckyfind/hydepark. It was some of the best skiing I've had in a couple years. We hit a few things (rocks, stumps) at high speed and messed up the bases a little but it was totally worth it for fast, bottomless skiing. I did 5 laps there, then the bowl opened at about 1. Below zero temps and strong winds kept the crowds down. I only saw 4 other people on our second lap in the bowl. Sick day for sure!

I spoke to a nice patrol lady on Wednesday. She said and I quote "5 isn't ready yet, its still pretty thin in spots".

based on this i'd say it will maybe open sat PM to get some compaction before the whordes arrive.

Yeah, Monarch delivered...more like 12" than 3" as there was lots of untracked left.

Snow was complete blower, but as others have mentioned you need to be careful still. Some spots are thigh deep, others LOOK thigh deep and are only barely covering rocks and stumps.
You should have been here yesterday!

^^ this. While it would be fun to ski Vail, I worry the crowd may divert me elsewhere (though, I think crowds will be inevitable everywhere in summit and eagle due to the upcoming holidays).

Cold in Vail this morning, but already warming up significantly. Definite sun crust in the back for tomorrow. (edit: 5 is open today)

both opened today and heard both were super thin. Anywhere from 1-2 feet of snow with a suncrust and a bottom.
