Dumping in CB off and on, 5" on the pow cam when they cleaned it off. We don't get the wind that you get on the front range, so it's rare for us to have lifts down (silver queen)

I will also be there this Sunday.
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!

I would love to try to make a gathering!! Spring sounds good unless I'm slammed with work.

You guys should start your own thread, look into dates around 2022, and GTFO of the weather thread.

I haven't seen it snow this hard in a long time. Best guess is that tomorrow at Winter Park is going to be amazing if you can get here.
I have my doubts it is snowing that much. There isn't that much moisture. It is just that windy that the sky, trees, and ground are providing the snow. .

Storm was somewhat of a dud, but went out around noon for a ski break here in breck. Tbar had a bit of a line but imperial was empty with hardly any tracks beyond whales tail on peak 7. Almost a sleeper MLK Saturday if that can even exist.

Headed to Silverton tomorrow. Couple of questions for first timer:

    - With snow in forecast easier to drive over Red Mountain pass or via Durango?
    - How big of skis for down there?

Red Mt is definitely fastest by a good bit. But keep an eye on CDOT, because Red Mt will close before Molas/Coal Bank do (if avy danger rises).

This. Well, widest. If you decide rent pure powder boards they may not have your size. One time mrs beece went there assuming she would rent some wideboys and as a 5'2" 110lber ended up on nearly 180cm long something or others.

I just told her to ski fast. If ya point downhill it don't matter.

Personally I wouldn't ski the biggest skis possible at Silverton. You'll ski some deep snow but you'll also ski some windfucked alpine nonsense and some funky hardpack runouts as a lot of runs start as big bowls and funnel down into tight avy path gullies. I'd take my Billy Goats or Wrens over my Protests, no doubt.

Good beta -- thanks. I'll take Bibbys and Protests and start on the Bibbys.

Agreed. Like any resort the best ski on a given day at Silverton depends on the current conditions.

And, like any resort, whatever skis you happen to have should work fine...

The latest blog update for North America (the first of 2020, finally) from my perspective. Colorado is likely to get more snowfall in a mid February pattern change in the long term.

In the next week or so, much of the mountains in Western Colorado are expected to get snowfall starting on Monday morning, and continuing through to Wednesday morning.
