Creamy fun today - meadow skipping in the Indian Peaks contrasted with yesterday's dust over crust at Eldora.

@auvgeek - thanks for putting up with me.

Super fun lately. Glad to not be meadow skipping anymore. Bagged some prime steep lines that we haven't gotten in a few years. I'm sunburnt and sore. Stoke is high

North face of Sniktau skied incredibly well yesterday. No crust, no wind slab, just powdery goodness over a well consolidated base.

That’s a huge pile of big sticks caused from a big avalanche in Herman gulch area, probably caused from the large snow totals over the season

Pretty good example of why "Climb what you Ski" isn't always a great idea:
    https://avalanche.state.co.us/caic/a...3mqkXHE2gfow70

Exposing 6 people to the slope for 1+hrs vs ascending the ridge and skiing one at a time? You pick.

Glad no one was seriously injured.

That is the standard route to hit shit for brains. Unfortunately they found out the hard way that it wasn't ready to be skied. Barfed out the mouth of the chute....yikes

Most boot up SFB but 6 is way too many to have in there at the same time.

6 might be too many on a good day, but 2 was too many that day, no?

That’s not the standard route. That’s just the route a lot of people take. Hiking the ridge is much safer and less exposed.

    Sounds boring...and long...and expensive...

Can I take my dog on your "standard" route?

The one time I did SFB, I took the ridge. It was quick and easy. Too quick actually. I ended up waiting an hour at the top waiting for it to corn up. No way I'm climbing up that thing with the hordes these days.

Boring is good, length is about the same, if not shorter, I’ve seen 11 people and 4 dogs come down SFB in one group. YMMV.

Yup so confirmed boring. I'll take hard over boring. No lift ticket needed. Walk up and poach the line from the peeps waiting up top. Easy peasy

I was under the impression that there is a class 4 move or 2 on the ridge. Not exactly a walk in the park with ski boots on. Plus, snow climbs are fun. I’ve only ever skied it after climbing it. It’s a fun, easy snow climb in the right conditions.

Lift ticket? The ridge route comes up from the other side. I don’t know anyone that hikes the upper east wall around the Marjorie bowl to get to SFB...

It looked like I saw some people drop the backside of the tree chutes hike then go up dog leg on Sunday. Had thought maybe they were doing that to try to be sneaky but it easily could have been two different groups.

I’ve done it both ways. There is one exposed class 4 move between dogleg and SFB. Both ridge and snow climb are highly enjoyable!

For Gore-curious individuals, the entrance/exit slogs are the easiest they've ever been IMO.
