I was meadow skipping with dog, but jumped on some nice little test slopes on the way up. Wind slab from last couple days is very poorly bonded in places. This was below tree line.

This is weird, so their cat terrain encompasses the low angle bowls in the "potential compaction area" despite the fact that they are doing avy mitigation on the steeper terrain higher up on the ridge? Or am I mis-reading this?

If so, this cat skiing operation seems pretty lame.

I missed that. I was assuming the operation included drops off the Divide. If not, that is lame.

The location of the cat road and two drop off points donít seem to indicate that, but who knows...

<500' of <25˚ windpack surrounded by much better skiing/riding. Sounds par for the course.

Sounds like they're trying to compete with Keystone's epic catskiing.

Eldora could glade salto better and those trees would be prime.

If eldora actually gladed their trees it would be worth going there.

Eldora's trees are more gladed than they were 15 years ago, I think.

I wish more of the mountain was gladed, but the named tree runs -- salto, Bryan, placer, gully -- are just fine as they are.

Learned to ski at Eldora and been skiing their trees for years. Salto had some incredible turns on the upper section but then it is simply too tight. I understand there are some runouts that are much more open, but in the thickest spots its hardly good skiing.

Sorry you are wrong. eldora has done nothing to trim the forest growth over the past 15 years. It is run by idiot hippies.

I've gone up in the summer and cleared some trees for my private stash so I'm satisfied but the resort does nothing to fix their choked out trees.

Passed Bluebird Backcountry on the way to Steamboat earlyish this morning. 40+ cars in the parking lot. Almost full up. Guess they are making a go of it. Good for them. I think we underestimate how many people are happiest on low angle and/or blue runs.
