Somehow I managed to hit more rocks today than I had all year combined. Made two turns down what looked to be well-covered bowl, before taking one of the Lhasa tips went under a rock and ejected me.

Good news is minimal damage to the ski. The zip-ties-as-breakable leashes worked well. The old Comforts I'd never skied prior released cleanly.

Bad news is beacons to the ribs suck.

I broke a rib in the exact same way. Over the handle bars in low tide conditions, right to the beacon straight into my side. Cracked a rib, which hurt for the rest of the god damn ski season. Hope yours turns out better.

The getting is good around the SW right now. Durango had more snow out of this storm than out of any storm since winter 16/17. Just need to be carful in the backcountry. So many human triggered avalanches right now.

But the really good news is that this didn't result in season-interruptus ;-)

Beacon to Ribs = one of the many reasons I put a beacon in the waist pocket. Feel better!

I cut my day short on account of having destroyed my ankle on something in the garage = can't keep it in a ski boot long...

Yeah -- my burly inbounds pants have a beacon pocket. My softer touring pants don't.

If Summitt approves of beacon pockets, that is good enough for me.

Breathing hurts. But at least I got to ski some great snow.

People are bitching up a storm on the AB Facebook page about two new blue runs in the Beavers not being groomed before opening. Comments are getting good.

    Haha saw that.

That ought to be hilarious, gaper quote of the day material. I caught a couple of comments about this on Al's Blog.

Anyone know if they do any grooming on the Pallavicini double blacks?

Just kidding. But I am excited to try out the beavers if I can navigate the treacherous blues. Which have been your favorite of the new runs? Excited to get in there this weekend. If the blue moguls don’t kill me...

Ask Montanaskier, his micro-child is hitting those bumps like Plake on acid on a mono-ski.

PM Rontele. He knows the secret nooks and crannies of the Beavers including the location of the secret smoke shack.

From the CBAC IG account. This is up above Irwin, but the cool thing is that there is a lake on that bench. The avalanche broke the ice and sent a flood of water down the hillside below as you can see with all the dirty snow.

Nice skid mark from the lake incident.

Man the skiing is so good for this time of year! Making it really hard to work these days. Blew off work early yesterday to go get some late day laps. Sure, there's lots of rocks, but there's always lots of rocks here. I swear it was warmer on the hill than in the valley too.

Nice share Frank. That is a phenomenon worth noting for its rarity.
