Seems that somewhere along the line the thread jumped from 'best service/experience' to 'best skiing'. I put the skier experience at the top of the list in CO along with a few other areas. Free, close-in parking; limited day ticket/season pass sales; affordable pass prices w/benefits at other areas all over N.A.; longest season in CO; delicious, reasonably-priced food; and just overall vibe.....it does seem that Al & Co are making a solid effort to provide the best experience. Kudos to that. I think those who don't realize this, haven't skied there in years.

Very little of the Beavers-Steep Gullies expansion contains intermediate terrain.....I believe it's only the 2 cut-trails and even then, they have signage stating that Loafer is the most difficult blue run on the mountain.....proceed with caution! That run would be labelled a black at Breck.

I thought that was Wolf Creek today. Caught second chair up Alberta. Untracked first run good snow for Wolf Creek. By second run was crossing tracks. Finished the fourth got back to the lift line. Full maze. First time I have ever seen that at Alberta. I went home.

I talked to many friends as well as many customers in the shop telling me they were going. I'd still rather be there but it half makes me feel better that I didn't haha

As per my usual Breck report, turned out to be a sorta sleeper day up high. Always love the boundary chutes rope lines on days like this with not much wind.

This. Even if they overreport snow totals if the wind is right and you know where to look it makes for great skiing.

North Face opened around 1, but no phoenix/spellbound. Headwall was open all day. Teo bowl and frontside didn't open.

The RFV’s getting slammed. I’d be trying to get here, if you can.

    Telee:

CB’s a nice mountain, as is Arapahoe Basin. But they’re both rocky hills, that take a lot of snow and work, to get open.

Aspen Mountain’s been ski area for 75 years. With locals and summer work crews cleaning up the slopes.

We had expert terrain on opening day. Patrol can get most of the mountain open quickly, with a 20” base.
Highlands opened with some Bowl runs on 12/10,
while Arapahoe Basin was still skiing man made, on only a couple of runs.

Eldora FTW. Best management, best terrain, best crew ever.

Well, besides Vail. And the ridge at heartland.

Shred I am well aware of the benefits of your little corner of the world, in fact I taught skiing at Highlands back in the day for a couple seasons. It is a great valley, with wonderful skiing, I still think "the most consistent snow in the world" might be a bit of a overstatement. Have you been to British Colombia, the Chugach, hell even Little Cottonwood Canyon?

Snowaddict, yesterday at the Butte did not suck at all. I am hoping to get back up there tomorrow for a few laps as well. Gainful employment raised its ugly head so no outing for me today.

Alright, Shredhead has convinced me to head to the RFV this weekend. Typically a Basin skier but heading to sample the goods with more snow, less rocks and better management.

I think there may be different definitions of "consistent". Does CO get consistent snowfall- hell no. But are conditions almost uniformly "good"? I'd say yes. Cb was skiing pretty well last week- with virtually no snow in 5 weeks. I've lived in Whistler and interior BC, and if it didn't snow there for 5 weeks the skiing would be horrendous. As friends in that area have said, comparing it to CO "the highs are higher but the lows are lower". I think that's accurate, when it snows there it's a lot better than it ever gets in CO, but if it rains, it's a lot worse. There are some other areas that can withstand a long dry spell like Utah and Big Sky, but generally, CO is usually pretty good- just not consistently great IMO
