Here comes the rain again. Feels like weíre already in monsoon season in the Front Range. Apex/Enchanted Forest is going to be like a rain forest soon.

Dry as fuck still in the Crystal River Valley.

But there does seem to be a bumper crop of ticks this spring. I assume that was due to how mild last winter was. I can hardly walk to my mailbox without picking up a couple of the little fuckers.

I'm about 2 hikes away from setting up a permethrin dunk tank on the front porch.

I don't think that was monsoon season, just the standard spring storms (albeit way more than usual). It just went from cool spring to hot summer overnight it seems... let's hope everyone gets an actual monsoon season this year.

I climbed and skied Mt Evans yesterday and would not recommend. Though the sunrise from summit lake was breathtaking, we found a thick, frozen crust on top of 6Ē or so of unconsolidated crap. There was a fair bit of frozen avi debris to make it worse. Iím not sure if the boot back or the ski was worse, but all involved were happy to make it down safely.

I met a young lady today who found similar conditions on Torreys tuning fork yesterday before rag dolling down it. Sounds like she needed S&R for evac but no life threatening injuries.

I donít see many more freeze/thaw cycles coming our way and doubt that things will consolidate. Itís MTB season for this guy.

Good times at ABasin closing day this morning, before it got jam packed. Lake Reveal did reveal and was a blast.

Sounds like 6 people were caught on Torreys in a avalanche/rock slide today.

Hit Quandary E Face on 6/3 and Geissler on 6/4.
From the Quandary trail head it was 1.5 miles until we hit snow. Good, fun day with pretty solid conditions: started down after 10 and probably should have followed MSí advice and started down closer to 9/9:30.
For Geissler we only made it to the saddle, but W Geissler doesnít seem to have enough snow left. E Geissler still looked good, from what I could tell.Click image for larger version.

Some conditions from Indian Peaks after a Sat/Sun up there...

On Sat, Skywalker was pretty good on the up, until Lea and then it became a soft granulated mess. Stable enough to climb (at least relatively early) but certainly not to ski - 55+ deg, would've just all slid off. Worked down the ridge, but was similar, so had to downclimb and traverse back into the main run. Was then super heavy, just worked our way safely down. We took the lead from a group who had a headstart on us, thank you. Skywalker Sat was crowded, but mostly climbing groups. On Sun only saw one climbing group going up there in the AM.

On Sun, after some great beta from two on their way back, we hit North Star on N Arap. Much better snow (north facing) and super great line. Well filled in, although need to downclimb a rock section between summit and main couloir. A week earlier prob could have skied it from the summit.

Neva looked well filled in still, but prob needs some cold clear nights to lock it back up
