Durango might be closing their trails and open space too. Business is already tanking here.

Also, I'm really glad I moved into my van to work on a job all summer up near Purgatory and camp on SJNF land... At least I have standing job offers out of state.
Close 'em down. 85-90% of wildland fires are human started. Most of those people don't deserve good things.

Seems premature to reopen despite contradictory statements from the 416 incident team, but the FS is under a ton of pressure right now to reopen from all over the place. Critical drought conditions still exist and there are nothing but hot, dry, windy days in the foreseeable future. I just hope we don't regret this...

I think everyone did. I hear Quandary was a congo line.

I passed Herman Gulch trailhead yesterday...parking extended onto the I70 offramp

Glad we got out on a ride early today, looks like it's gonna snow out there. It actually did snow on us briefly.

being a misanthrope I prefer to see less than six people when recreating outdoors and that's always a goal

but on the other hand I think I need to readjust and rethink and enjoy a congo line of people, smiling, saying high, and enjoy being part of something bigger than myself

what do would you clowns rather have

I would need copious herbs and brews to survive a conga line without my head exploding or getting thrown off a cliff by a big Texan. Luckily, there's plenty of ways to recreate in Summit (in the summer especially) still where you will see few if any people/

Anyone been patch skiing? Any good, easily accessible patches on Jones, Rollins or Loveland right now? Is St Mary’s a suncupped mess?

Is there a new term for people that love to go to the hip new spot over and over and over until it isn't cool anymore?

    yeah.......

I have known a few people "training for alaska" who would run up and down quandry because it's really only a 2 1/2 hr hike. Can only imagine the look on some peoples faces as they are sucking wind and dizzy.

And yeah I know all those places where you can go to escape, I'm just not going to post them on the internet

This about sums up weather forecasting in the US....

Monsoons are going to be earlier: https://www.vaildaily.com/news/stron...tern-colorado/

    But....

Monsoon season is going to start later: https://www.9news.com/article/weathe...s/73-567434334

I guess since it hasn't started earlier, someone thought they could sound smart by saying it's going to start late this year?

I always figure that monsoons start around the 4th or July, give or take a few weeks. Can't wait. Hate fire danger, love moisture, and I can get out before the rains most days.

I think there may be a bunch of these... we've had several small ones get squashed pretty quickly as they got lucky and resources were there.

Sounds like it is back by the Henderson mine. There's another down in Park County as well.

Not small. Strated lastNight. Heard it burned 800 acres in the last hour. Watching it billow is nuts. Lightning started it most likely. Its in the Darling Creek drainage by Byers past GCR 3

Near the Henderson Mill. The mine is on the east side. There's a lot of Beetle kill in that area and it's burning in an ideal place. There's sub-alpine forest and eventually tundra to the N, E, and S, and wetland/willows to the W. Let it burn.

It might snow a little bit up high Saturday night. Probably the last of the summer. Then, rain......?
