This was around 4pm in CB, coming down hard since then. I thought we'd get a trace or so since it seemed like a front range upslope.

So far it seems to be outperforming on the Sperry scale.Click image for larger version.

Big fracture, I'm going to notify the Sperry-AIC. Very dangerous. I'll go probe the debris. Click image for larger version.

Solid foot in South Fork and only 2 inches up toward Creede. The birds are getting crushed, never seen so many roadkill. The ones that got grounded by this storm the last couple days have had a struggle.

We’ve got a visitor in Dispatch. Hoping he takes the exit with warmer temps over the weekend. We propped the door open for hours yesterday (how he came in), but every time he felt the draft, he flew back to the other side of the room.

Animal control says if we try to catch him to put him out, the stress will probably kill him, and the cold definitely will.

No way that's the earliest. I'm almost certain I remember seeing gratuitous face/core-shots from late August at some point over the last 20 years from Silverton...

Sugar water, 1 part sugar 2 parts water.

You can catch them easy with a butterfly net. I often catch by hand when they get in my house, but they have a feeder to fuel up on right outside so that the stress doesn't do them in.

Hmmm... I've always done 1 part sugar to 4 parts water... is this a mountain-hummingbird recipe?

Yep, we’re giving him the same mix we use at home. We’re going to hang a feeder in the doorway, as soon as it’s warm enough to leave open. A/C was up with a butterfly net yesterday, but cautioned that putting it outside in 25 degrees would likely kill it. We stressed the fuck out of it yesterday. Just letting him chill, and hoping he doesn’t poop in our food too much today.

He seems less stressed today, less laps and more hovering. The paper shredder, a desk organizer and the edge of several wall maps seem to be his favorite hang-outs.

4:1 is OK. 2:1 is hummer crack. I actually start and end the season at 2:1 and usually do 3:1 most of the summer. Hummers choose my crack feeder over the neighbors.

Mr Downy the Diabetic Woodpecker also likes the hummer feeder.
