Just got back from dawn patrol on the fatty, in Snowmass.
It's really slick. About an inch of ice on any warm surface, with 4-5" of fluff on top.

I just got a text from an abasin patroller lady friend.... she said they're going to open 100% terrain today. East Wall gate is supposed to drop after 12:30ish.

Good news, I am so glad we don't have to wait until March this year.

Updating this post - Abasin's base webcam is back up and its gnarly. Good thing there's so much terrain for them to spread out to.

On a side note from weather. Larson's ski swap had a couple dope OG skis for cheap.

185 Bamboo side wall black gotamas with the gold budda on the tail. Flat, one mount, little beat but not bad $50

190 black/white Head monster 103s with crappy red/grey solly equipe demos. Skis in great shape. $45

They also had some Moment Ghost Chants with sollys for $200 or 250. Can't remember, but they were in great shape

    Used white STH16s for $80

In other news, took a while to open but the pass was fun. All seven sisters slid over the road apparently?

Nah hidden valley, it was roughly 8” but the wind was... well standard for the park. So we stayed leeward and in the trees and did well.

Yeah; a bit too many gapers without backpacks for my liking. Tore into a few after they center punched the skin track with their ski boots. They didn’t even have snowshoes?!? Jesus Christ.

Stay safe! We have classically dangerous early season backcountry conditions currently.

    TBD, top isn’t open.

I get why they did it, but pour one out for some quality trees

Yeah, hard to argue with the decision, but hard to have that side of the mountain so changed. Curious to see exactly where it goes.

    A. "social trail"? WhBt do you work for the Forest Service. In skiing, we call that "a traverse".

    B. "the traverse" used to be/still will be called "Do or Die". The new trail in the same place is called "Drunken Englishman".

    C. The whole idea is that it will be now easier to get wallets to Lunch Rock. It is fairly retarded in that you'll still have to ski Lower Jane Trail which will suck for beginners. It amazes me that people can't figure out that if you take The Yellow Brick Road/Whistlestop to the High Lo you'll be right at the top of the Jane.

    C. As for Frenchy Trees being done, we will see. It is not exactly like they were a secret for the last 10 years and the egress isn't exactly friendly.

    D. History Lesson - Before the base village got put it, locals very rarely parked at the Jane. You used to be able to park slopeside next to the Corridor in the "Locals Lots". Everyone either non-stopped Outhouse, skied the Alberg Trees or took Do or Die to get the Jane. Fastforward to the Zepher Mountain Lodge, pay parking on the Park Side, and the Arlberg Trees being OB and nobody parks at the Park Side and the nobody uses Do or Die.

    E. The Future - The Zepher needs to be thrown in the garbage. The new lift is scheduled to have a mid station at Sunspot and continue to Lunch Rock. Pay parking at the Jane. This will freak people the fuck out. I'll go on record as not giving a shit as long as I can take the bus from Tabernash.

    Times are a changing!

Foggy, do you think all of the lots will become pay? That would be a bummer, but I wouldn't be bothered if the lower lot became pay.
