Peak 2 Fire.....80 acres, 0% contained and thankfully the winds shifted. It was looking pretty scary for a while this afternoon. Big THANK YOU to those who are fighting it.

Winds are forecasted to increase throughout the day today and blow from the N/NW which would blow the Peak 2 Fire back toward Breck....no bueno. Fire officials are expecting it to flare back up. Gonna be hot and dry again.

That's what I said last summer too.... and nothing. Fingers crossed for some much needed moisture, and soon.

Didn't look too bad this morning when I snapped a pic from the ZL trail. Winds just picked up quite a bit from the north though which is bad news.

Fire Weather Forecast for Northeast and North Central Colorado
National Weather Service Denver/Boulder CO

.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Friday...
Isolated to scattered high based showers and thunderstorms
will continue into the early evening hours. Some of the storms may
produce dry lightning given the low surface humidities, and new fire
starts will be possible in drier fuels. Gusty outflow winds of 30 to
50 mph can also be anticipated near any of these high based showers
and storms. Outside of storms, surface winds will remain light and
follow normal diurnal wind patterns. Similar picture for tomorrow
with slightly increased chances of a wetting rain on the plains.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Friday night through Tuesday...
Moisture will remain over the area Friday night into Saturday,
though there will be less instability and some drying aloft for
Saturday resulting in less thunderstorm activity. Sunday and
Monday will be warmer and drier, with only isolated storms. The
upper level ridge that has been over the central Rockies will
shift eastward in the middle of the week, allowing for an increase
in moisture and thunderstorm activity, but temperatures will
remain hot. There will be a little bit of dry lightning each day,
and there may be an increase in this activity sometime next week.
...Thunderstorms imply strong gusty erratic winds...
...All surface winds are 20-Foot...10-Minute averaged winds...
...CWR is Chance of Wetting Rain - 0.10 inch or more liquid...
...24 HR Trends are based on averages over the respective zone
groups and may not match the actual forecast values
shown in those groups...
