Yeah was hard to believe it was that good in november yesterday. Happening so fast, buddies on patrol told me they're ready for tbar to open but the mtn doesn't have staff to operate it until saturday. However, when the hike opened to get up there yesterday it was all locals heading up which was cool to see.

Yeah, I think the slow openings over the next 10days or so will be a good thing. Just enough to keep the tourists from bitching but space it out such that there will be rope drops during the high pressure next week.

ASF, I remember you telling us about this and have wondered how you were doing. Glad you are here to tell the tale. Thanksgiving, eh?

I have a question, but I'll ask it in the slide zone.

E chair opened yesterday and was spectacular, didn't hit anything underneath which is rare for an E chair opening. Tbar opening today with access to 6 chair terrain as well

How does anyone live in Gunnison?
    It's 18f here and 50 miles away it's -13.

But it's always sunny. When I lived there I just got used to it. Once it hits 0F its just plain cold, the number didn't seem to matter below that. Also, whiskey.

On my way through yesterday there was a guy pumping gas in short sleeves, truck said -11F.

Went for a skin yesterday and man the snow is staying great out there, even in sunny areas (as long as you're not too low in elevation).

Al just keeps teasing the shit out of us with pictures and talk of the Northside and beavers too I guess. skied slalom yesterday and it skied like shit because the entire thing is traverse marks without pali open. did one in radical too and it was really nice there. getting there from Len isn't ideal but not terrible. I imagine its what is necessary with this high pressure dominating.

Just came back from Sedona for three days of work then headed to MX for a week. Torture to see the snow and not have time to ski it. Ugh. Some years the late desert trips work out well for missing the doldrums of the WROD and some years they get you missing the fun rope drop season. Need to get the legs moving!

I drove home from the front range on Friday and it was in the mid 30's in Poncha Springs and -10 in Gunny. That said, when I went to city market I just had a hoody on and thought it was pretty comfortable. I'm glad I live in Mt CB though, it's usually 15-20 degrees warmer just in those 3 miles from town..

I obviously know that they are old school condos, a buddy owns one (and I'm gonna pick his brain too) and I have been to his place so I have at least seen the outside (and the inside of one unit). So I am surely not expecting luxury, but there are lots of things a quick look may not show ya.
So, things took an interesting turn. Wasn't planning on buying until next Spring/Summer, and was generally assuming WP/Fraser (which is why I was asking about Hi Country Haus) but was at least looking at other places like Steamboat area. Now it looks like I will be buying a place in January, in Oak Creek.

Nice Danno! Thats good living out that way. Make sure your tires are up to snuff as the plowing out that way can be a bit dog shit.

Hopefully you've got a bit of remote work in the mix so that's not just a weekend and holidays type place. If it is worth sharing, I'm interested the though process that generally made you go 30mins. from a ski area 3hrs. from home from 5mins from the ski area 1.5hrs. from home?

I support it. These up valley towns are really turning into "city in the mountains" and are kinda dominated by people that like that.

    Thanks!

Our hope is to occasionally be able to work remotely. One of the considerations we talked about generally in condo shopping was whether we could see ourselves working from a place, or see ourselves spending a week in a place. And quite frankly, the answer was mostly "no" for some of the places we could afford in WP, like HCH. And you kinda answered a lot of it in your last sentence.

Everything is a tradeoff. We talked about how choosing a place further out meant we may use it less; certainly the quick one night mission is less/not doable. OTOH, we get a place somewhat removed from the masses, way more peaceful. But also in a town, so if we need a carton of eggs or some milk, we can walk to the small grocery store there. And while it is 25 minutes to the ski area, my dream town is Durango which is the same deal. And there are hiking/biking trails and xc ski trails right there. We have close friends who have a place on the edge of town and we've stayed with them a lot, so we had some sense of what it would be like to be there. And of the plowing or lack thereof. And we also have other good friends nearby, so that played in to the decision as well. But I have no doubt there will be times I will regret not buying in WP! And I am sure I will still ski WP a good bit (I prefer WP to the Boat by a good bit but the GF feels the opposite); I have friends with places and the seasonal rental I am currently in may allow me to poach a night here or there for a fee.

While there are tradeoffs, we kept coming back to one thing (which is why we jumped now and didn't wait till summer like we originally planned): the price. The mortgage (and taxes, insurance, HOA) on this place will cost us about what I pay now on rent/utilities, and I'm moving in with the GF before a mortgage payment is due. So this place will require no tightening of the belt, all it "cost" us was the down payment, which we both already had and wasn't going to be different in the summer, so there will be no lifestyle change to afford it. That was HUDGE!

condo (which is odd for Oak Creek). But it's a very small complex, 8 total units, on the edge of town, so pretty quiet.
