That was exactly my point. The article in the Summit Daily made numerous references to incentivizing carpooling but no other details other than charging for parking. Maybe they will institute a financial incentive for carpooling, but simply charging for parking won't do shit but line their pockets.

Fuck these cunts talking about charging for a lot that you still have to take a bus from. Infuriating.

I agree with this sentiment; at minimum, paid parking should only exist for lots that don't require a shuttle. That said, someone will take that qualification and point out that you can walk to the lift from the A lot. I mean, is that walk really all that different from the parking garage in Vail?

Crazy that they're making snow at Mary Jane. Don't believe a late, secondary period of snowmaking has ever happened up here. They really want to make a push for Memorial Day.

what? snowmaking in March? where on the hill? that's nuts.

I don't care about "Memorial Day" or any target, but I love the approach they have taken recently, where they will stay open as long as the snow stays.

Aspen takes aerial photos late season and hits the thin spots with snowmaking during the fall.
Dense, icy snow makes a better base.

Ummm yeah it is - you just got to arrive between 8:30 and 10:30 when the attendant is there and get a voucher.

Edit: Or at least that’s how it’s been for a couple years now including all this season so unless something has changed in the last couple of weeks……..

Sounds like the $450k parking spot for sale in Aspen is a steal.

2 or 3 fan guns at the bottom of Jane trail. Some decent piles forming. Word from Ops people says goal is to pump 1 million gallons of water over 10ish nights.

Last season the limiting factor that forced closing wasn't snow on the runs, it was the base around the Super Gauge melting out and turning into the wetland area it is in the summer. They think if they store and push out some giant piles and they can extend the season longer.

Sky's (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) dream is to run downhill mtn bike operations on Parkside while there's still skiing available on the Jane.

Coolio is our man on the inside. I've heard exactly the same thing from some of my homies living the middle management ski area existence. It sounds like the desire to be open indefinitely comes from the fact the the core employee base is already full time year round and, more importantly, it's a play for Alterra's infrastructure money. Steamboat is getting $22million in improvements. Go check that out and then ask yourself what would Winter Park could Winter Park look like in 10 years?

And that 10 year future is why I'm forming an exit plan to be out in the next 6 - 18 months. I want off the ride and don't want to be here for the massive growth. Every year I eat a pile of shit for this place only to find said pile of shit replenished double the next year, and it's not going to get better.

My therapist says awareness and acceptance are the first two steps. I have plenty of friends that that have hitched their wagon to that horse but I couldn't do it. If you like living in the valley and have stable housing, consider the trades. As I'm sure you know, we have self employed dog walkers and cleaners grossing $100K around here. Paycheck maintenance guys make >$30K. This place is what you make it but I see I pretty direct
inverse correlation in my friend group between happiness and and amount of time spend "at the resort". I also have plenty of friends have bounced for supposed greener pastures only to be pulled back by the easy living that is down valley Grand County Life.

The 31 minute thing I've experienced every drop off..
We got a voucher the 4 or 5 times I've pulled in with 4 this year, including just a week or two ago. Maybe not on holidays and/or when that attendant position can't be filled.

Re: Alpine lot, the carpool story is pure bullshit when they do nothing whatsoever to encourage carpooling now. They could have priority parking even within the free lot for carpools, but nope. It's about the money, honey.

It wouldn't be the first vehicle left to rust on that pass. Maybe drain the gas/oil/fluids.

The classic early March 32 degree, 50 MPH gusts, greybird day. I feel like we get a couple of these every year.
