No need to east for elk. It's shit actually. Just ride cougar ridge to a beer.

I have a friend who's ridden up under his own power and done the trifecta: Game Creek to minturn, bike back in and up, Two elk, up over china wall to minturn, back in, cougar ridge, back. I've only done 2 elk and cougar ridge in a day, and I wouldn't do it again. Now, I ride into town, take the lift up, have a beer, and choose my descent. But I'm 20 years older than when I moved here.

I heard they pussified Lionshead into Minturn since I last rode it. Or something. We originally were going to take the Gondi, and ride out to Mongolia from there, but we missed the Gondi by 3 minutes as they closed early. (Free tickets).
I don’t really know the mountain though.

It was a chundery mess, but yes, it has been laid with some pussy. And it tastes great!

Yeah it got the full IMBA flow trail treatment. Fun, but not at all technical.

So we're moving back to Colorado this summer. Looking to get a US phone plan again. Any thoughts on mountains coverage between Verizon and T Mobile and ATT? Verizon was what you wanted when I left because of non-ski-area mountain coverage, but I remember dark spots at ABasin and Vail.

Try descending the other direction down to east vail next time. It's also a riot. Both are fun. If the east side was longer I'd like it more. Wasn't a fan of couger ridge... kinda meh imo... lots of time on a chundery double track.

Abasin put in a Verizon tower. You get good internet service there now. Which is nice for us working stiffs.

Yeah, we were only there for a few years to travel (shit timing with COVID and housing market skyrocketing tho) before having kids and moving back to the US to be closer to family. Couldn't sell the wife on staying longer, but wasn't pushing it either cuz I like living in Colorado too.

I use Google Fi, which I believe uses Sprint/TMobile towers? Service is pretty solid almost everywhere. I think the conventional wisdom is still Verizon, but it seems like coverage is much more comprehensive now for all carriers.

Grand Traverse to Game Creek is also a kick-ass ride down to Minturn too.

They rerouted quite a bit of the upper section of game creek and is not nearly as fun now. Good ol grade reversals with backwards berms and all...
