"I don't always stop midway down an exposed line, but when I do, I stop on a rollover above a cliffband."

One time we were skiing Raquet Club I think and we came across Radek toward the bottom of the run. He relayed a mini-epic about dropping a multi-tiered 30-50 foot cliffband, catching a snake or something and ragdolling down the rest of the cliff into a treewell. He was skiing alone as per usual, and unfazed. He was like, next time I'll stomp it! Not a conservative decision maker, lol. Also funny to see Blurred commenting on the video.

Radek is a rad DH biker. He always complained about the loose rocks invariably in the middle of Keystone trails due to infrequent maintenance. adimmen and I call those rocks "Radek Rocks."

And then not two days later people are jumping the same slope right next to this slide. No one sees any signs of instability, do they? Looks good to me. Let’s drop it.

3 days later (she was Dec 13, Radec Dec 10), pack seemed to be doing better. And unlike Radec, she didn't beater.
That being said, E Marvins has always made me uneasy. I think of our various slab problems and how many times over the years I've seen that whole bowl ripped out full track, not necessarily on super scary days. So I ski past it even though it looks super fun.
Blurred on Dec 9 after skiing past E Marvins
On days Marvins seems stable, there are usually too many beaters dropping in on you and/or the snow is shit on that super solar face with mando airs. So I ski past the shit show for better snow.Originally Posted by blurred

Sick photo Summit.
Loveland was a fair bit colder than I planned today but had fun anyway.
There was no hucking of meat for this guy today.

@kinnikinnick "Seemed to be doing better" meaning the storm slab that was poorly bound at a thermally effected interface on that solar E slope and was thus cutting loose on Dec 10 appeared to have become a persistent slab with at least somewhat better bonding on Dec 13. Not saying it was better to the point where I thought it was a good idea to send a cliff on an exposed slope like that! I categorically do not think E Marvins is a good idea. But hey... if you are going to send it into a start zone, at least follow the "try to never beater in avalanche terrain" mantra... Right?

East Marvins Bowl? I don't know why it has that name.
@thesnowshow I mean if we do want to talk about that fine looking lady who likes to get in the air (nsfw) and decisions... how about the fact that guy shooting the vid of her is standing on the slab she's hucking onto? Not exactly a safe zone... another problem with Marvins... there are basically no safe zones except the top... and into the trees over 1000ft vert down across the creek. When that bowl rips, it takes out every damned thing.Originally Posted by blurred

I’ve always had similar feelings towards that line/face. It’s a sweet send for those that want to go for it, but the history of it sliding on moderate days is prominent over the years. Most of the guys that I know who ski it regularly have all gone for a ride at some point. In my opinion there is much better skiing around the corner.
Seeing all this sure makes me miss the years of skiing that zone everyday. Sounds like it’s been a good month in EV

From years ago. I have a huge archive of slides from EV. Year's worth.
Keeps me fresh.
And I don't know Marvin, Abraham, or King Arthur, or other old men, like Tut.
Although back in the 80's I was very priviledged to see King Tut's coffin and artifacts in the Museum of Natural History in NYC.
It really did change my perspective on life. It prepared me for the many deaths to come, from my parents, to friends. It taught me to treat them like gold.

Yikes! i guess I am truly becoming away that "posting shit on social media because it is fun and makes me look cool" really has become "I'm a semi-famous Insta Ho and I need to get the shot for my sponsors".
So yeah, from what I have seen is the Berthoud Pass/FRV area, the classic buried weak layer condition is evident. Please try to stay cautious in your decision making and don't out think the situation. From the avi center:
"That's pretty solid and widespread evidence that the threat of triggering a large and destructive avalanche breaking on persistent weak layers buried by mid to late November snowfall is alive and well."
Go find some meadows or some trees.

Same aspect, check
Same elevation, check
Same slope angle, check
Both in party on same slope exposed at same time, check
If this had resulted in an avalanche carrying both down slope, would people be saying “wow, who could have guessed it could slide?”
But of course it’s all stoke and positive feedback on IG
Oh well, not my life on the line.
