Don’t listen to these guys - Peak 8 at Breck is the place on a Saturday. A quiet, hidden pow run called 4 o’clock will have you grinning ear to ear.

Has anyone been up to Berthoud lately? Any conditions reports from there? I assume 'not epic' but wondering if there's enough snow up there still to do a bit of a short-ish tour either there or Butler Gulch. New skis just got mounted up, would like to take them out for a test drive.

New skis? I wouldn't ski new skis up there right now. It's been warm, snows been melting. I skied ~2k of vert the Sunday before last but that is mostly consolidated or gone to crap. I'd be thinking about getting out mid-next week if you can and staying on well trod paths unless you want to fuck those new sticks.

Thanks... probably 'just wait' as I'll be in Mexico for work all next week. Could might possibly knock out a couple laps at LL before I head outta town, but probably not. As far as fucking new skis, I usually have the attitude that 'all skis are rock skis' but yeah, maybe not intentionally fucking them for a bit is in order.

And whatever happened to the Berthoud Pass threads from a couple-few seasons ago? Assimilated into this thread? Not enough folks skiing up there? Way too fucking many folks skiing up there? Every year I say to myself I say "This is the season I get out and tour more. This is the season I ski Berthoud and/or some other zone more." And then I just read the conditions threads and pretend I'm a backcountry skier.

I think the Berthoud conditions thread still exists in the main forum, but you're right, I don't think it is used much or at all anymore. The Loveland thread gets a lot of use during the season, but this thread seems to be the go to these days for Colorado folk.
edit: just checked, looks like there used to be a yearly thread, but there wasn't one for 2017 or 2018."fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ

Nobody goes to Berthoud anymore, it is too busy.
It was ski season up there for a day. Now it is not. Personally, I don't do the preseason shit show. Once the lifts start turning with real terrain open, it gets better.

I swear that place is busier than it ever was when they had lifts. It'd be cool if they could continue without lifts, but have a patrol for avy control, medical stuff, and maybe some mild trail work, and maybe a bar restaurant at the base. Just charge for parking to pay the patrollers.

As someone who occasionally tour solo, I don't mind the "crowds" at the pass. It's good to see people from time to time. It's cool to see so many people enjoy human powered skiing. And the amount of parking to skiable terrain means that while things get tracked, you can always find some relative solitude.
It seems like a primo place to have a "human powered ski area". I'd totally buy a beer up there and throw in for an inexpensive season pass for avy control/patrol.

Looks pretty solid in the Sangres, you can see the old Conquistador ski area in the background. Don't think they ever had this much snow last season.
