Vail is like 5 square blocks. It takes about 15 minutes to fucking WALK the entire town.

    Good luck, though!

That's a great hiking and camping area. Oh well.
Hawk - we had no issues with smoke, but we weren't downwind. Ouray, Telluride and Mesa Verde were fine.

Camped and hiked there for the first time just 3 weeks ago. Glad I got out there when I did.

Or simply toss them in the nearest dumpster when they're found on a sidewalk or street.

    Problem solved.

I was around Shavano and didn't have cell service. Punched in home addy on car map to see how long the drive and it wanted to send me through Aspen (5+ hrs) as it was showing BV-Leadville closed or something. Got into town and saw that wasn't the case with CDOT info. I woulda be pissed.

Glad I camped on Weston last summer, had a great time. Sorry to hear it go. Hope it’s not all of it. There’s plenty of trees to drift smoke onto 285. Probably didn’t want the truckers hauling at 70mph in hazy conditions.

There's actually a couple of locations just north of CORA (Campground of the Rockies RV park) where the trees do grow up to the western edge of Hwy 285. From the photos I saw, it looks like fire has burned up to that point.
Weston Pass fire is up to 9,300 acres this morning.

Tourists ride the bus, they don’t walk. Sometimes they take a Segway. They might check out a scooter. If I see one I’d check it out for fun. How do I get one for free to ride?

You can extend the ride to Lionshead or send it off Vail Pass. That would be a thrilling descent!

Fire in Basalt started tonight by people firing tracer rounds at the shooting range, which was was supposed to be closed due to stage 2 fire restrictions.

Already shaping up to be the worst fire season in colorado history! Spring Creek will end up being the worst on record... no doubt. At least everywhere seems to be getting some rain today. 416 was getting a light drizzle last I heard from friends.

How bad is the smoke in Aspen? Supposed to be camping at Difficult campground this weekend but wondering it I should figure out an alternative plan.

Vibes to all impacted by all these fires. Makes my weekend plans insignificant...

Also curious how bad the smoke is in vail ? Was supposed to do big bike ride up there this weekend and work on the scooters, wondering if it will be too smoky to do the grand traverse and connect down the back bowls for a bunch of mileage

At this very moment, not bad at all in Aspen. My windows are open and I've got a fan blowing air in from outside. This morning was hazy and you could smell smoke but still not that bad. I think we have just been lucky with the wind direction so far.

You can check air quality in real time here: https://www.cityofaspen.com/298/Current-Air-Quality

From what I've seen this year and every year with smoke from fires, it changes day to day, if not hour to hour. You'll get lucky with the wind direction or you won't.
