I went down to Squamish to run errands today and got back about an hour ago. I knew it was gonna be good news when it was snowing Howe Sound, and the po-po were doing tire checks at the gates.
And for those thinking of heading up tonight, Hwy 99 Squamish-Whistler was sketchy but still passable, 40km/h average speed with mandatory snows or chains. They had an army of plows on it, so I doubt it'll close or get any worse.

I have 2 things to say:
1. Lets some of that white stuff make its way to the Rockies.
2. Go out there and make the mountain your bitch!!

My frustration is reaching the beyond tolerable levels now...Just got a call if I wanted a ride up tommorow...Is there some kind of skiing hotline where I can whine about my sorrows? I guess thinking about the starving kids in Bangladesh that will never have a chance to go skiing can cut down my pain a bit, but I'll say it again...FUUUUUCK!
Every year it's the same thing, questioning why I'm in school and all, for the same damn reason! Weekday pow blows, I tell you.

today was a good day.
lined up for harmony after one lap in the trees... lots of blasting produced small slabs (basically last nights snowfall on top of the 10-12mm of surface hoar that had been forming throughout the week - also windloaded in some places) we got up and got freshies in the upper horseshoes down to gun barrels (which have filled in nicely). a couple laps in there and then we hiked up flute and hit a line down whistler bowl and into doom and gloom, beauty turns all the way down... snow was really light density everywhere because it's been so cold... not great to jump off anything huge because there are still lots of rocks underneath, but amazing for making turns and getting faceshots. also can get pretty windswept in a lot of places.
stuff got tracked out by lunch. grabbed a bite to eat and headed to flute for the afternoon where we got some beauty turns down the main face of the bowl. met up with Shaggy at the end and ended up taking the gondola down.
my biggest issue was that at whistler stuff gets tracked out REALLY fast, even hike to stuff... don't expect anything fresh until is snows again... even stuff off peak was getting pretty schrapled by afternoon, and anything even remotely lift accessed was just done for..
all in all a great day. hope i'm not too fucked for this final tomorrow."Freeride is just an attitude, to go out in the mountains with no rules and do whatever feels sweet to you at the time." -Chris Davenport

That sure sounds better than my day at school.
However, be REAL careful still, a good friend just put a big injury gap that could easily have been a season ender, he hit a big shark belowthe harmony waterfalls (not hucking at all though) and landed on his back on another rock. Broke his T-12 vertebrae and a chip came off, bruised kidney, and massive hip bruising, on top of a shredded ski. Sucks big big time.
