dumping at Magic. It didn't start sticking to roads/non-snow covered surfaces until about 2:30. 3" so far.
I'll be up at the crack of dawn again so anyone looking for snow totals for southern VT at 5ish you know where to go.

I'm a half hour from Jay and things are looking very good....NOAA is saying 12 to 18" and my gf picked my sister up.....big fat flakes and apparently it will get heavier
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?
Screw it were going to Wildcat in the AM.
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

Ouch!!"After attending the 2nd annual Jay Peak Glade and Chute Bash March 9th, I wondered how such an event could be sanctioned by IFSA. I have attended Whistler and Snowbird events for the past two years and admired the professional judging done by Michel Beaudry and his crew. The judges at the Jay Peak event seemed to be local yokel hacks who knew nothing of how to judge a Big Mountain Skiing event. Although the scale at Jay Peak is much smaller than any other IFSA event, there are still some interesting terrain features on the "face chutes" that can be scored well. Judges seemed to be scoring individuals well on how many "windshield wiper" turns could be made down the "face chutes" rather than skiers who displayed hard charging speed, fluidity and big air. Judges also rewarded several individuals who lost a ski during their run with top scores. Other skiers received a top score from one judge and bottom of the barrel from the other. I have never witnessed such inconsistancy in judging at an IFSA sanctioned event. It seems to me that the judges at Jay Peak didn't really know how to score an IFSA event. IFSA should reconsider putting their name on this backwater competition and focus on events that make big mountain skiing a legitimate competition."

not to dissuade you from going for it. Enter and destroy.
its the last sat of break
im not too worried about the judging. There are many skiers better than me. Im just entering for fun.
i dont like the qualifying run though. The run seems to get wind buffed pretty badly. I might have to bring 2 pairs of sticks, 1 for the icey qualifier and one for the face

I am qualified to drink and watch this event only. I might go up and do just that though.

I'll enter if the snow is decent, all the better if its salty local judges![]()

edit: NVM, i'll be entering. probably allen too. maybe i was there on a really filled in year or soemthing, but as i recall there arent many cliffs in that area, just a lot of steepness, is this a correct assessment? anyone got some pictures or video from last year?

We'll be there taking lots of pictures and cheering on everyone!
I've known people who have entered in the past and they said it was a lot of fun, a great way to see what it's like to be in a comp. I'll bet there will be a lot of locals who know the Face well, so anyone who hasn't skied that area before might want to try and get up there sometime before the comp to check it out. It's true that in the past the judging has been kind of wacky, but many competitors later end up going out West to compete in the bigger events and have done well.
I am thinking of entering with some of buddies. I read that write about the judging when I did a search for the comp a few months ago, it isn't the only crappy review of the judging out there.
Either way I think it would be a fun. I was thinking about the skier-cross too.

"I demoed the Davenport 2 weeks ago, I really liked them a lot... the blue sidewalls and tip really looked great with my pants. I also tried the '11 MX98, they didn't look as good with my outfit. If you have blue pants or maybe some Lange race boots I recommend you check them out."
Registration is the day of the event:

MRG or gore?
I have entered the Jay comp before and the judging is suspect to say the least. The year I remember most all of the top three where locals and two had thrown a shoe on their runs.
Basically pick a rowdy line go fast and throw a huck in, two or three years ago a dude won with a back flip. I didn't enter last year because it was rescheldued due to snow.

sam, its the face, just go there and look at it

HAHAHA
OK so separate question....It looks like I will be heading to Bolton tomorrow because my ride has to be back by 11 and doesn't want to drive to Mad. Since I've only skied there once, can anyone give me some advice on where the "gnar" is at? Nothing was really skiable besides groomers when I was there so I didn't do much exploring. I guess what I'm really looking for is some nice tree lines.
PM me please if you're in the know.

that being said, devils playground's woods seem to be as good as it gets there.
Last time i went in their "out of bounds" trail on the far skiers left side of the mountain I was miserable, its just a stream bed filled with ice and super low angle trees.
enjoy
