Thats an Enviroment Canada forecast and W/B has no input in it,im sure mountain forecasts are tough to make long term but ive found them to be fairly accurate.Maybe not allways for snowfall amounts but for freezing levels
and if its gonna snow or rain.

its actually Environment Canada's forecast. I doubt they fluff the forecast for W/B's sake, besides Pacific storms are hard to predict in terms of freezing level.

I seem to recall in years past that Blackcomb opens a few days earlier than planned if conditions are good. Or am I dreaming? Because if it opens on, say, the 17th, well, I'd be OK with that.

If freezing levels stay low throughout the storm and early next week I don't see why they wouldn't open the mid mountain next weekend. You will have to download, but if Jersey or even crystal opens it'll still be pretty dope. Last year opening day was a weekend early (Whistler opened before Blackcomb) and Red was the highest chair open. It was raining and pretty heavy snow but still worth it.

Im not sure if thats true anymore as W/B people are saying the opening day date is pretty much set in stone for this season. I hope not.

From the webcams it looks like there is still a lot of peak-to-peak related construction activity at the Roundhouse. If the contractors were told that they could work right up until November 21 they probably set their work schedules to do just that.

But Blackcomb can easily open with the construction area not being effected (Open Gondola, Excellerator, and Jersey).

Still hopeful, if not, maybe Baker will step up even earlier.

Doubt it'll open early. They just started the job fair today, which means they won't let the kids know they have their jobs until next week, plus a week to train them up.

Up to 90cm forecasted by sunday night. snow-forecast.com has similar numbers but slightly higher freezing levels.

    Fuckin'a!

Is it just me, or is Fortress just nickel and diming W/B? This just might be my perceptive bias, but it seems like the mountain just isn't as well run as it was before Fortress came in the picture.

Fortress is a private equity firm. PE firms buy companies representing value, ratchet down the books by cutting service and salaries to make them appear more profitable and then sell off for more than they paid. get used to less for more from W/B.

Insert rant re. Peak to Peak Gondola:

Clear proof in my view that the new ownership is not skier-oriented.

and the reason why there will be no early opening regardless of said blizzard on the way. I hope all the construction gear gets fucking burried this weekend.

Damn good question mr pow 11 - I'm racking my brains on that one. Sharon doesn't want to lose toenails. i don't particularly want to drive all the way to duffy for POS coverage
