The Solar Panels are connected to the utility grid, the ski area is simply creating the energy on-site.

The return on investment is expected to be about 4.5 years.

Utilities are the number two expense behind payroll in the ski industry. By creating energy on-site, electrical costs will be greatly reduced. Those savings ensure skiing remains affordable.

The long, sunny summer days will offset the lack of sunshine in the winter. There isn't too much wind at Mt Abram, so it wasn't really an option.
