That's the thing with mini vees. Their ratio is close to cantis. I switched a bunch of old cross bikes to them and they even work with road brifters.

Tektro 926al mini vee are an excellent upgrade. With kool-stop pads pads they are even better. Compression-less housing would stiffen them up, but I was fine without them.

In my opinion if you can get the tire on with leavers the rim needs more tape. When the only option is the Kool stop tire bead jack there's enough tape. That's as burp proof as it gets.

How hard is it to remove the old crown race? Fork has a small recess for the race to go in. I doubt the park tool could grab on it initially.

My ever loosening headset turns out to be a sealed bearing headset, not low end cage bearing. Bearings seem good. I tightened the cups with a press. I hope this is enough, dunno what else it could be
