Spray your tire with a soapy water mixture and look for bubbles. Sometimes you'll have better luck finding the leak since its on your own car and you're likely to spend more time on it than a shop...

These aren't cheap and the mileage can't be great... but if you you're looking for the perfect ski/surf ride (not car) these are hard to beat....

I'd go with a mid 90's 4x4 Jeep Cherokee. Can be found pretty cheap, very reliable, and easy/cheap maintenance. Some have the full-time 4wd transfer case which is great in the snow.
