Come ooooooon Hedwig!!
I'd add QST106s to the list too.
Buy whichever you get the best deal on. I'd suggest that you'd be well served going second hand and cheap for now too.
Tentative vote for Futurelight here...
Ooof, I'm not sure that's fair...
It's an absolutely stunning place to be and there are a number of ways a guide can take you to make it more interesting.
(480 in these conditions tho...)
See now, I'd argue that a bergschrund is caused where a glacier pulls away from the mountain rather than a cornice... ;)
(I bought a rope when I thought my ski posse were going to start learning &...
I'm not sure I have the knowledge to compete with the ski-historians on here but the Seth Pistols were the skis that made me immediatly think "Skiing is different now"
I'm gutted I didn't have the...
Finally the Western Alps have gotten some love!
Lovely day in resort around Les Arcs yesterday with the first bottomless turns I've had all year. A few places where you could convince yourself it...
I'm not sure I can think of anywhere significantly better than the three options you have. Dumplings, Rosti or Pizza?
The French mega-resorts are finally getting some infilling but I'm not sure...
Yeah ok, lesson learned.
Yeah well it's been a while since they've had a base grind too (if ever actually)
OK, Sharpening the scarper has definitely helped. As has leaving the skis for a proper long time between wax and scrape.
*like!*
May I ask a gaper question?
I'm ashamed to say I'm new at home waxing but have got the hang of most of it. However I find with most of my skis that there are smears or patches of wax left after...
Yeah well no one said that beer doesn't also rank pretty highly...
It's hard to understate the position speed skating holds in Dutch hearts unless you're lucky enough to have been there when the canals freeze. There are Christmas movies and everything about it.
...
One of the bigger rugby podcasts had a show about this recently...
Have to admit I'm surprised (but gratified) to see a TGR thread on it that isnt a subset of the Euro thread.
I can tell you that the ski club kids in the french resorts ski everywhere pretty well these days.
Not least because modern kids coaching philosophy would say that kids are better off doing a wide...
On another note - has anyone got a good link to somewhere that explains Alpine weather patterns? Just for my own education and interest.
Blimey, thanks for all your help guys. Not sure I'm any clearer but that's my fault.
I guess the question is would these skis be my poor/hard snow skis or something a bit lighter than the...
Blimey, that's very bad :(
Seems a bit lame to say now but a bit of heavy upside down dust on crust here. Only the lower lifts open in Les Arcs. Nothing in Espace Killy it seems...
Hi Guys,
Looking to upgrade my touring skis and take advantage of the deals on the Salomon MTN 95 at the moment.
I'm 5'8 - 173cms - and, being a tgr user - ski longer ski lengths (other skis...
Aww, really? :(
We may get a taste over here tonight. Struggle to see it from the sky at the moment but, everything crossed!
That'd be why all the old ones have suddenly gone on sale on the (euro, at least) webshops.
Should I grab a bargain or wait d'you think?
So are these the same as Beignets (en francais) or totally different...?
If so... Om nom nom nom!
Were I still in Verbier that would be a great plan, but in a effort to avoid being Brex-fucked I'm even further west, in Bourg St Maurice.
Point taken though. Think my ruse is going to get...
Trouble with that is that the only way to do that is to change the schedule so that you hold the comps at places where the snow is good that weekend.
Not much point having comps anywhere other...
Yeesh, not looking good at all this end... :(
Understanding why my girlfriends say it's hard to have fun with 5cms...
For sure.
I meant my touring skis but I now have a set of boots that I can use with hire skis and I took a set of piste skis up to try and remember how to carve properly.
Probably the best 4...
Yeesh :frown:
I've just bought new bindings for the skinny skis.
You're welcome Western Alps!
Ah, the old "make it lighter by making it smaller" trick...
That in itself is a bit weird tho, innit Jon...
(With respect)
Thanks Doc :)
Hmmm, I've never walked into a shop and seen them is more what I meant, but fair enough.
(Given that I seem to break stuff a lot I'm starting to be more attracted to stuff I can warranty easily)
...
Any recommendations for a touring binding with brake? Something to match a 95 underfoot ski for "genuine" touring and uphill resort skiing that arent the MTN..?
(ATK a bit difficult to source in...
:(
Pense à nous français
Managed to brake my binding today too :cussing:
Hi Guys,
I've read through the thread n'all but are there any issues with these like with the Shift?
Some (admittedly quite old) Dynafits have just disintegrated on me and I'm looking at...
Is the 'live' follow drone thing new? That is brilliant and needs to be in several sports I occasionally watch...
Thanks DigSki
Unfortunately I've not had many days in them given that the conditions here are so meh. Lots of time in the touring slippers instead
They also cause me a lot of pain in the...
Bit of a general question...
Have a new set of Nordica Strider pro 130s from Surefoot. I have a set of zipfits which seem to work well but aren't so good for touring so for that I use the stock...
On the FWT website.
You can skip straight to each run and stuff. Have to say, it's done very well. Kudos to them...
Hard to explain quite how bad conditions are in Europe at the mo. Pyrenees must be even worse...
The Salomon Shift...
I hired some piste skis today and went and tried to remember how to carve proper race turns...
It's that bad...
Reckon the N Face of Montfort might be my favourite Verbier run.
Eddie gave us some tea when wed had a minor family epic (I'd overestimated Ma & Pa raver [emoji2960]) To this day I've never found...
Apologies for being Captain Bringdown a bit this week but here's another difficult but must-watch from Ari Tricomi...

I saw one about a cornice collapse in Torgon (?) too.
And another about some poor sweedish kid who fell off a ridge (description wasn't precise)

Jesus, 3 more deaths this weekend in Valais alone! (2 guides!)
I'm not superstitious but it seems like there's some seriously bad Juju around at the moment...
Stay Safe Everyone.
[emoji22]...
Wow...
The learning point from that is that one little patch not sliding when everything around it was lethal.
(And the same thing vice versa...)
