Had an insert come out of a ski. Anything I should know before I reinstall it? Anything special to do when reinstalling it?

Ha. I did use glue for all screws so hopefully that’ll keep out some water.

Mounted my skis W/ CAST system.

Semi-successfully this time. Unbeknownst to me, a Jigarex arm was slightly off so had to remount on one ski :| but that's on me.

The plan was to do a 2x4 mount for sure.

I'll now do this as well.

Yeah, I know how to set the forward pressure, just wanted to make sure there wasn't some inane approach to mounting them due to their relative lack of adjustment.

Probably going to mount a FKS+CAST setup in the upcoming weeks w/ a jigarex+plates.

Anything in particular I should be aware of when mounting this whether it's CAST or FKS related?

That's a pretty ski. Big boy ski for sure.

They're still skiable, just harder to sell since limited room for remounts.

If the jig hadn't been crooked, it would have been basically a perfect mount ;)

Oh I found something, I don't know what it was, but it was the cause of this (besides my own stupidity).

No fault in the design of the device, just my own idiocy.

I know...but Jigarex's are supposed to be idiot proof. I guess the designers didn't have people as stoopid as me in mind.

Turns out I botched the mount more than I thought.

Turns out the 3rd time is the charm for a fuck up.

A chunk of some sort of gunk (perhaps paint from a project this summer?) managed to get...

It's not a big deal, I'm pals with the guys at the shop I'm going to, may as well learn some tricks while I'm there.

Edit: Mishap will be fixed with a shop's help. Not a big deal.

Well, I had to drill the hole a little deeper, drilled a little deeper than I wanted BUT didnt go through the ski :) this time. Gave me some room to add some threads near the bottom

So I guess my final (hopefully) question is that do I just coat the sides of the hole and screw it in or fill it completely, screw it in, and then clean away the excess?

Was this for a screw or insert?

Those who have used the JBWeld w/ Fiberglass combo for fixing a spinner (insert), what exactly did you do? Any words of wisdom?

I had a shop fill the hole with a combination of a dowel, epoxy, ptex, and probably some other things. Looks good now, but remounted the binding in a different area obviously to play it safe.

I read a thread on here that said to fix strip screws, the best solution was to rip out the threads of fiberglass cloth, mix it...

I understand that and am not arguing against that point. But a stepped drill is not a surefire way to avoid errors, especially with inserts. Anyone who has done inserts knows that the stepped bit...

I'm asking if you've never seen a shop fuck up a mount and drill through a ski. An inexperienced person drilling a ski is still inexperienced regardless of location.

If you look at the BF stepped bit you'd see it's not much of a step. I have no idea how it happened tbh, I went to add some more depth to a hole and well, when I went to tap I wasn't getting that...

I guess I'll have to take a look at the Wintersteiger bits if I need a new one any time soon

I have one, the one from BF. But even stepped drill bits are not immune to user error (as I learned)

My thought is do this, redrill the heel mount and just use the heel track (thank god it's a Kingpin) to make it work.

What happens when the only option is a box store like REI? Or when the local mountain store doesn't carry the jig required for AT bindings? Or when the shop technician has never mounted AT bindings?...
