A couple pictures from night flying recently. I needed solo night time/landings for a commercial ticket, and I've been playing with night vision. You can really see the difference between early...
That's hilarious. I'm a little embarrassed I didn't put that together myself.
No new paint job, was like that when I bought it. I wish the weather would cooperate and I could fly it a bit more.
Reno Air Races were awesome, minus the midair. I'm eagerly awaiting 2025 and it's possible they'll pick Casper, WY.
Meanwhile, a new-to-me plane:

Ooooh. Special AK. That's pretty.
Reno Air Races anyone? Tickets went on sale today. This will be the last year. Perhaps we'll get to see all the unlimiteds back for one last hurrah.
Can confirm - these things are awesome. Watching contrails as a bullet arcs into a target is awesome.
I'm not a fan of the cheap 60x spotters. I find a decent 40x, like a Leupold Mk4, will let...
Just for reference - spo2 values as a function of altitude in the general population:

SHOT returned to normal crowds this year. No booth, so I got to walk the show the whole time. I always come away with something I can't live without, and this year, I think that goes to the Laugo...
That's nuts. Of very much secondary importance, but I'd be curious to see how FAA medicals go in the future. Maybe you go BasicMed now? Dr. Blue might be a good guy to talk to in the near future.
Mmmm. Thunderbeast. I'm a big fan of mine for the bolt guns. And that HK is sexy.
My recent pickup was a labradar, which is a radar chrono that'll do velocities at distance. Ballistics models,...
So kind of a funny one - WYS was dead Tuesday, and the AWOS went out of service at 10AM Tuesday, right after I left, so I was a little concerned I might have missed a NOTAM and landed at a closed...
Went down to Afton as I'm trying to finish up xc time for an instrument. Tuesday was West Yellowstone, which was also rather pretty.
I bailed on Big Sky yesterday, as the winds weren't great. ...
Here's one from yesterday morning, taken coming into Swan Valley from Pine Creek Pass.

Very cool! I'm usually at the hangar parties, but I've missed a few this summer. I have a hangar on the other side of the airport. Always up for a beer at warbirds!
@kevo - is that Fox Charlie? I spend a lot of time at the Driggs airport. Let me know next time you're here.
^ That's awesome. It's hard to not have fun shooting from a helicopter.
All of those are fantastic. My mask is my most-used suppressor. You might also look at the rugged oculus if you want something smaller (mask stays on pistols, oculus on rifles in short config). ...
I have a feeling that 7.62x39 is about to get really scarce in the US.
Had a fun one today - New-to-me Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 was running cool. I didn't really think anything of it until it wouldn't defrost the whole windshield on a trip through I80 the other day. ...
Put simply: I think it would be fun to hit smaller things at longer ranges in more wind. Ballistic performance on that cartridge is incredible.
SHOT was interesting this year. Anyone else go?
Foot traffic was WAY down, but it seemed like it was mostly the people who shouldn't be there anyway that were missing. I got one article out of...
Posted this to facebook, but figured it might get more traction here:
Had a Nordica Enforcer 110 191 (sidewall repair under binding on one ski) with pre-wtr pivot 14s (white, but one mismatched...
Coroner is busy - four bodies I know of in Teton County in the last week. Numbers 5 and 6 still missing.
Rented a Taco a few weeks ago during a visit to the east coast during the gas crisis. It was 2/3 the price of an economy car for the week, and prices dropped by the time I had to fill it up. Good...
I know! 133 days at the resort last year, slightly less than that each previous year. I'm going to put some time on them this year.
Bought them years ago from El Chupacabra on here. I haven't skied them yet and need to change that.
I think a rip down an untracked bowl on a powder day would be a lot of fun.
I have a pair! 6 for the Jackson spatula summit. Worth an early tram?
I shoot my 22 suppressors more than any of my others. The mask lives on a ruger mk 4, and an oculus in short configuration on an ar conversion upper. They’re legit Hollywood quiet, but the sound of...
So there are two parts of that - there's the assembly labor and then the excise tax they have to pay on a completed rifle. On something that expensive, it sounds about right.
*edit* Excise tax on...
Re: AR uppers - I have a couple I would let go if there's interest.
First is a faxon gunner 16" with integrated flash hider, TI gas block, faxon carbon rail, holoson 403b, toolcraft DLC BCG. It's...
Bobby returns! And yes, 408 Cheytac is a thing.
Do it!
Thanks! If you're ever in Jackson, let me know and come play with one.
That's been my day job for the last few years. They work pretty well out of helicopters, and a silhouette at 4-500 yards becomes a pretty easy standing, unsupported shot. Not at all bad for ~.5 lb....

Gyros are fun.

Another fun article - gyro-stabilized rifles

I'll add that .5 MOA isn't hard for a single group of three. There aren't many combinations of person/rifle/ammo/conditions that can do it for 30.
Kinda fun - https://taskandpurpose.com/military-tech/army-next-generation-squad-weapon-iron-man-suit/
The lightest semi-auto short-action cartridge guns (that are standardized, have parts available, and don't cost a ton of money) are going to be just under 8lbs before optic instead of the normal ~6lb...
300 BLK is a lot of fun, but a bit hard to find ammo right now. I was paying $0.60/rd for either 115s or 220s in the good days. 147s are loud and have crap ballistics, but they're common because...
Buy what you're most interested in shooting at the range. Should you ever have to use it, being proficient will be far more important than what it is (don't buy a 22 for this purpose).
I’m kind of obsessed with the Bul Armory Viper. It’s an Israeli-built shorty 2011 with an integral compensator and comes with an RMSc. 19 round capacity. Who wouldn’t want a race gun in a...

Christmas crowds have arrived! We got over to thunder mid-afternoon and wondered why no one was there until we froze on the lift. Seems it got cold fast this afternoon. Snow was much improved from...
A Staccato P followed me home last night. I'm not sure why I waited so long to get one of these. I think a Bul Viper is next.
It's that time of year again -
I had one fail like this at speed last week. Thankfully I just slid a ways. I finally got around to looking at the other one and found cracks starting to form in...
Midway has $0.57/rd IMI M193 again...

JB Weld!
You know the roller you come over to the left of the trees after the first pitch on Werner? Came forward out of the ski right at the roll over and ended up on the cat track below. ...
Well there went my day - middle Werner at a pretty good clip. Thanks to ski patrol for the loaner ski!
