He was Swiss from Basel, not British. I have not skied with him but he had a very impressive record of Alpine achievements. It seems the son is fine (physically).

All I know is that they were both caught, the father died and the son survived. My wife is friends with the deceased man’s ex-wife / mother of the boy so she may find out more in time

As I said I don’t know the details of how they ended up there but I know he was an experienced Alpinist

I think it’s related to Zermatt now being on the IKON Pass, an American kid was killed and the prospect of eventual legal cases against the resort.

If you make it over to Verbier I’ll be around during that period doing high altitude stuff as training for the PdG. If you’re a strong skier it’s the perfect time for skiing the Bec des Rosses

I don’t understand why they ran it in warm grabby conditions on Friday when there is 30cm of cold pow forecast over the weekend and Monday’s forecast is perfect

Hard to beat the high Alpine glaciers around Zermatt for that brief! Or head to Arolla and stay up at the spectacular Cabane des Vignettes if there’s any space left

That’s very late season so only a few of the highest resorts will be left open and without all the lifts. Zermatt is open until 1st. Val d’Isere/Tignes and Val Thorens (but not 3V links) also options.
