yeah with just 2.5 gallons I can aerate pretty good by shaking, I probably didn't get my smack pack warm enough quick enough either, it sat at about 60 for the first 2 hours, then I warmed it to 70...

be interested to know which oatmeal stout recipe you used, if you like the way it turns out. Been wanting to brew one

did my second brew last night: 2.5 gallons of Nug Mocha Porter

first batch was a success! Carbonated, tastes good, not quite as full-flavored as I had hoped but next time I'll steep the grains a little longer. Doing a porter next!

oops forgot to follow up on this. I put some warm (100°) water in a bucket and set the carboy in it, and the yeast woke up almost immediately. Decided it probably shouldn't be that warm so I pulled...

The StarSan is so easy. I put a half ounce in the carboy then fill it 2/3 of the way, shake it up, pour some in a bowl to sanitize the small stuff, then pour the rest over the funnel...

cool...will give it a go. I was thinking about buying the homebrewers' oak chips, serving it out of the fridge, straight off the bottom...maybe in a flexible container a la franzia even?

alright I don't homebrew but I went and got myself addicted to real (cask conditioned, what have you) ales. Is there any way for me to get these without throwing myself into another hobby?
