La Nina isn't nice to Taos historically. Was in the last few years (since my 7 year old was born) that was as thin as I've seen it. That said, it also...

50/50, will likely be very aspect dependent. At least most of that is high enough on the mtn.

That last HUGE dump was one of only two or so major storms I think....

Anywho. If we weren't getting this storm too I would be on the road right now.

Was anyone in the lineup for when Highline or Kachina opened?
Talked to some friends down there and sounds like part of the delayed openings were for private access.

That discussion happened in the CO weather thread for some reason....

My sister is still texting me to rub it in my face I didn't go down.

That's twice as much snow as last time I looked.

I took a ski week from him when I was coming off of my last year of racing. Freaking rad.

We were skiing fresh lines on both Kachina and West Basin a few days after the last cycle.

The debris pile doesn't look 30'.... but yeah, where 4 unloads and you traverse over towards Hunzi is a nice bit of terrain trap.

An avalanche has buried an unknown number of people near Kachina Peak, the highest point at Taos...

Not good. My family and friends so far are accounted for... but man... looks like all of K4 and 5 slid.

Maybe they'll get terrain open now :p


Glad to see the snowpack down there is like mid february from last year if not more already.

I hold out hope. They tend to get one monster storm that can be enough snow to open and keep open a decent amount of their terrain.

Well, we're booked to be down there again March 30th I think... good thing it's with fam and we don't have to ski...

I'd say NM is one of the places to be in the 48 this weekend. Forecast looks good, and the steeps always ski better than you'd think.

Taos can be epic, and the steeps are all time.. it just blows when there is no snow. As has been said a good hundred times.
