I haven't held them but I'd be curious about the reliability of the lever under foot that activates the heel. If it were to fail, could the heel still be moved fore/ aft to continue on a tour?

I was in the same situation. Grinded down the inside "ribs" (a little at a time to prevent overheating of the aluminum). It worked fine.

Lorne's idea seems to be the only practical solution to the brake issue. Leashes and forward facing brakes aren't going to happen. Looking forward to an update Lorne.
