There are two plates the slide into the spring then the body of the compressor slides up the center of the spring and latches to the plates via a hole in the control arm in the spring seat....

OEM. It was a bit sporty even with a proper tool. Ordered the same for the other side for the next warm weekend day. My merc guy has the raddest merc specific spring compressor the least sketchy...

Rear lower control arm bushing and cleaned out the coil spring seat. Regreased the seat, new bushing and now no more squeak on every bumb! And I used jackstands.
