@mulletizer, fyi, zermatt yosimite ski shop was recommended by a zermatt local for all things backcountry and gear. may have boot fitters. the place looked well equipped.

so the long term reports on these things seem like they are gtg, simple, and robust. need to get boots first. then these, then be f'n done with ski gear. hope...

but man those rens are specialized tools. i've got to line them out only a couple of times and i was surprised and giggling, but those ops / conditions are so rare. were scary on snowbasin crust....

perhaps go to AK in august or september to hunt and fish. go to alps in march. if the snow sucks there, europe is still worth your time.
