Indeed. So the drunk driver of the stolen vehicle is Willy Raine. His mom, Nancy Greene Raine (Rosslander), won gold in the GS and silver in the slalom in 1968, was named Canadian female athlete of...
The "manager" / skicross director is Nancy Greene's son! That's 1968 olympic gold medalist/ current Canadian Senator Greene now. Ha! Awesome.
Just watched that on the replay. Gorgeous goal.
Great hockey by Germany. We got trounced. No gold medal for the women or the men. DOH! And no medals in men's or women's curling either! Ouch. A...
Well deserved. USA was the better team especially in the OT.
That was a fucking great shot by Poulin.
Did I miss it or has there been no mention of the men's slalom. Hirscher out after the first run, SHOCK.
BTW... in case this didn't make the US commentary,..Hirscher rented a shipping container...
They had other stuff to do in Sochi. Like drilling holes in laboratory walls to exchange urine samples. Shit like that.
Huh. Did not know that. Never been but thought it was a bit of a winter sports mecca kind of place.
On an unrelated note.... Germany takes out Sweden in men's hockey. Who'd have thought?
I get this. I sure miss seeing the world's best on the big stage... but I do understand the decision from the owner's standpoint.
Good for Oslo. I just read the wiki entry on this. 7000 pages of IOC "demands." Fucking politicians. They wreck everything.
The winter games used to be in such classic winter sports communities....
Ha! Agreed, looks like total chaos. Way, WAY too often the winners are declared after the fact based on penalization. In the one final the bronze was awarded to the Dutch (I think) who literally...
I agree that is part of it. But there are also empty spots at skiing events with the top racers in the world competing. South Koreans are watching short track because they are into it and competitive...
Just came home (from playing hockey) and watched the Czech/USA OT and shootout. Less than half the seats in that arena had somebody in them. Jesus Christ. Embarrassing. And sucks for those athletes.
So all 12 teams in men's hockey actually advance to the playoffs. What is the point of the "preliminary round"?
Women's short track speed skating relay. South Korean skater trips, goes down, Canadian skater behind her falls over her somehow still manages to tag her teammate. Canadian team disqualified, South...
I lol'd.
Maybe that's the difference? I dunno. Perhaps the guys from Mexico and Tonga (was it Tonga?) are the best that their respective nations had to offer in those events. Whereas there are a gazillion...
Some folks have made the same point about women's hockey. There are really only two genuinely competitive teams, Canada and the USA, and it's been that way for years.
Interesting point...
Somehow it seems different... but I can't put my finger on why.
Hirscher. Amazing. Power. Techique. A beast.
I'm just home from ski touring and beer and watching the first run of the GS on the CBC feed. God almighty Giant Slalom is fast now. This is not the sport I grew up watching. Amazing.
Which one?
I lived in the states for 7 years (New Hampshire and Connecticut) and had a seriously great time there. I travel in the U.S. a lot (our town is all of 12km from the Washington state border) and...
If you haven't seen that winning run in the women's Super G, including her reaction at the finish, you need to stop whatever you are doing right now and watch it. Just a fabulous moment in sport.
Indeed. Here in Canuckistan we have a new appreciation for the interest level in that sport in Korea. At the death threat level apparently.
Or hockey, apparently. Are skiing and hockey not what winter is, you know, for?
Bobsled.
Half the fuckin seats are empty at the arena. Be super cool if olympic games sites were chosen by passion for sport instead of politics and money.
USA vs SVK mens hockey is streaming on the CBC site if you fellas south of the border aren't getting it on NBC. 1:1 tie already.
You might want to check out CBC.ca. Watch what you want when you want. And the ski commentating includes two former world cup / olympic DH winners.
As an aside, someone commented somewhere on here about how stiff these boots are. I had the same experience, with my previous boots (for comparison) being first generation Factors and Dalbello Proton...
Why not just put alpine soles on them, which will of course work fine in your Barons or F12's. I believe that you only need the touring soles if you are running a tech style binding.
I just remounted some vertical STs on PMGear Bros with the 6mm B&D toe shim. Definitely prefer the reduced ramp angle on the down. Major improvement. The only down side is that I have to use the...
Super helpful. Thanks.
Anybody actually ski both, and on hard snow?
Unfortunately, the Vipec mounting screw locations are a giant problem with the exiting (plugged) holes in the skis I want to mount, so they aren't a viable option. (We had all three mounting jigs on...
Can anyone comment on how the Kingpin and the Radical 2.0 compare with respect to damping out vibration when skiing hardpack/ melt-freeze mankiness/ avi-debris/ inbounds groomers/ other horror-show...
[QUOTE=neonorchid;4193520]Out of curiosity, which version Freedom SL/intuition liner or Freedom (PU), /non-heat moldable liner? QUOTE]
SL with the intuition liner.
Toured again yesterday and...
Update on these boots, which I have been skiing all season (such as the season has been here.)
Zero issues with the shell. These ski very close to a regular alpine boot imho. The ski/walk switch...
I skied these in a size 26 yesterday, in the backcountry, for the first time. By comparison, my day to day boot for the past few years has been a dalbello proton 12, and my tech-compatible BC boot a...
I'm still confused. The scarpa website seems to clearly indicate the sl/pebax version is stiffer. But some in this thread state otherwise. Which is it?
I don't know if this deserves it's own thread. Probably not. But I picked up a pair of this season's F12's and I am thrilled with them. I have dynafits and I have Barons, and have skied fritchis,...
You could park my wife's Mini in that heel pocket.
Me, I have no heel, really.
Just reiterating the go-down-one-shell size advise on these boots. Alpine boots in a 25.5 are a tight performance fit for me. I could not make the 25.5 130 pro work for me.
And make sure you stick...
is there another DIN/tech sole out there?
One of these links said 2100 to 2200 grams. Which is not great.
And yes to the toe box issue. My factors taper DOWN at the toe, which is not what my feet do.
I got caught in a smallish avy that carried me directly into some trees. I ended up head down on my back but managed to do a bit of a back flip to get upright and, in fact, popped out of the slide. I...
Plus I have some green skis. So, you know... matchy.
For me that sole is genius. An alpine/DIN sole that is dynafit compatible? Gold. I'm ski touring, not ski mountaineering. The only place I need vibram is in the parking lot. I could ski any ski I own...
SOLD
thanks
Pending sale fell through (fiscal cliff for purchaser) so bumping.
