Yeah backbone definitely has one dicey area that would be foolish to ever attempt without crampons and axe. I expected BP to be real mellow but I thought there were plenty of places to slip and slide...

Just missed Sticksplitman on Baden. Mostly bulletproof and the high temps didn't do much to soften it up. 3 casualties on the way up that went for nasty slides. Props to Sticksplitman for making it...
Doing some weekend warriorism around the Wood this weekend if anyone wants to link up. On a split and verts for either Wood sidecountry or C-Pass. Anyone heading up?
Thanks dude, it was riding sick... specially for 3-4 days of 50+ highs.
Thanks Rod. I'm not from the area and don't want to burn anyone so I won't be too specific but it's South of the lake. Steepish NE face around 10k ft.
It was on Thurs. Couldnt believe how soft it was for being the 4th or 5th day in a row of 60 degree temps. Also hit the same area Tues though and snow was significantly better. Every day seems to be...
Warm shmwarm. (Brought to you by the word "sweet")

by the looks of the San G cam, Baldy might be a stretch. Theres snow on high protected N faces but I doubt anywhere else. Top half of BP might be doable if you're really keen.
Anyone scoped the Crest since the last round of storms? Are the talus sharks officially underwater?
Anyone know how late you're usually able to skin from Devastated lot on Lassen on avg years?
Be stoked this happened at the end of April, not Dec. When rules get broken, people get in trouble.
The exit is tricky. I'd bring snowshoes, verts, crampons and ice axes.
Radar actually aint looking too bad in terms of precip right now. Any reports on actual snow levels? Cant tell from wood cam if its raining or snowing at base.
Separate but equal?
...but definitely sufficient knee cartilage. Sick edit. My legs turn to jello just watching.
Amen. My board's worth a lot more than what I paid for the pass. Wasn't ready to wreck it on the snow days we had this year.
Ahh ok, I was just going off what an XCer told me. Makes sense. Both the skin track and ride tracks in that area were super exposed. Luckily no one was hurt.
Here's another shot of that slide above TJ. Looked like it was triggered by a cut.

Spent a couple days enjoying...
Welcome to surfing.
Anyone scope the crest since the sun got on it? Thinking of going and screwing around for a few days. Appreciate the beta or if anyone wants to meet up for laps.
Its not the storms, its the periods and temps between storms that get us. Back east 3 inches is a powder day, in the Wasatch 6 inches is one... here a foot is a trip to the p-tex doctor.
for sure
A ton melted between last storm and this one so I don't think anywhere is epic. Bear area (up high) would probably be best though
Most places in SoCal do involve sleeping on the ground, literally. This one involves sleeping on some snow.

^^Gotta say... killer trip. SoCal impressed me in so many ways the last 4 days. Thank you Dorner for allowing hwy 38 to open by Thurs morning.
Completely agree.
I don't think it's that athletes don't know what theyre getting into or understand the risks. It's that the level needed to win is getting ridiculous and the venues/audience are...
RIP. Such a bummer.
I watched most of the snowmobiling stuff on TV. The other accident could have also easily been lethal. Worse yet was a third crash when the snowmobile got loose and coulda...
Heard from friends it was raining in town so even if it was 11-22" it was prob gunk. Saw some video that made it look more like 6" of wet snow around chair 5ish elevation.
Or pay $35 and stay in SoLake with TV, Wifi, heat, fridge, bed, jacuzzi, free continental breaky, etc...
If im sleeping in my car im doing it super indiscreetly and definitely free. $35 or even...
Fires woulda been nice the times ive done it but for the most part everyone just gets in their bags by sunset and talks shit from its warmth til one by one falls asleep....
All the mentioned stuff can get real good, its just all about timing. I try not to go until theres at least a 3-4ft depth which isn't frequent. I'd say there's 2 right now in some spots, specially...
There's a really nice friendly run with a short approach called Red Slate. Doing it solo is no biggy.
Sick, I like it. I wonder how they get their depth data, seems like resorts are always fudging.
Same trip as Potatoes. Monday had some serious eye candy. Glad we left the warmth of the sleeping bags earliesh.

Bummer to hear. I grew up in Latin America and still do business there. On surf trips I meet people doing these North to South transcontinental drives all the time. All that comes to mind every time...
Wow. Next level stuff for sure. Thanks for the post.
Baden was doable but definitely sketchy with the thin coverage on the entire lower third of all N face gullies. We continued driving toward Kratka and found a lot better coverage. I think it may have...
Today surpassed my expectations. Toured above hwy 2 and the right pockets (NE) were skiing real well. 6-8 inches of slowcal pow on top of a bulletproof icesheet which I love because ice treats my...
The funny thing is that it looks like a BD deploy shovel... why the hell are they separating shovel and handle on that thing anyway?
Man just finished watching this...
His hand is free! Quick put a ski pole on it!
You didnt hear? Camelbak packs are the new tools of the backcountry.

Skied the bowl last year, long approach but sick terrain and consistent snowpack by socal standards.
Was gonna pull it today but we turned out to get less snow than expected. Looks like SR2 is still open too!
Looks like a little localized something falling in the mountains. Anyone testing out their cores?
Scary picture. Looks like Baker or something. Remarkable similarities between this, Squaw and Donner one. Its basically a mega version of others.
I would if it werent a Fri-Sun trip and it weren't a Xmas-New Years trip. Itll be zooish there for sure.
Like someone else said, its hard to play the situation from an armchair no matter how much of a shit show it looks like. I think the lesson to be taken home from this is that avy beacons are still...
Sick buddy! Let me know if you guys wanna group up and hit it. Looking like a goooood winter ahead. Was up in Tahoe last week and got some killer conditions. Can't wait to go back north.
Yeah, im just hoping this little base can stick around until the next storm cycle. Then it could be good. Once it melts then you just need that much more dumpage to cover the brush.
Potato, I was...
Don't get your hopes up. There's good terrain but its bare a lot more than filled in. I'd say on average there are 2 good days a year. Keeping my fingers crossed for this season.
