coverage at lower elev is medoicre at best but also depends on the exposure. I think the Fern probably has better coverage. I might check out something near Mittenwald tomorrow...

ZekeWolf, mid Dec can be a bit early in most places and I don't know of any camps at that time.
That said, this winter's long range forecast is "supposed" to bring lots of early season snow......
