Good eye! It's 15th and Belmont - you must know the neighborhood well, I wouldn't have been able to ID Belmont from this pic. Apparently the car was stolen and the perp got away, so don't know for sure, but seems likely substances were involved.

In my hood, we have a growing epidemic of oldsters going from not having ridden in ages to ebiking at speeds they cannot handle.
I’ve twice now seen old ladies just ride straight through a curve onto this one grass area because they can’t negotiate a turn on their ebikes. If there was anything or anybody in front of them it would have been a wreck both times.
Bunch of places where there are no sidewalks because there’s this “multi-use” bike path presumably suitable for shared use by cyclists and pedestrians…which was always kind of an iffy plan, given everything inherent to walking vs cycling. Now, though, with a hailstorm of wobbly 70 year olds doing 27mph on ebikes, we pretty much need a new bike path system for pedestrians and actual non-moped bicycles, because nobody can muster the will to tell the e-bike people to go do motorized speed in the road with the rest of the motorized traffic.
Last weekend I was driving down BCC and followed a rider for a while through a steep section (Storm Mountain area) where he was riding near or above the speed limit (30-45 mph). He wasn't claiming the lane like he should have given his speed which would have been an invitation for less courteous drivers to make a dangerous pass. He seemed a little shaky and didn't look like a very confident descender. Then, he started taking corners with his inside pedal in the 6 O'clock position  Luckily he wasn't leaning into the corners very aggressively. I was literally cringing as I watched his pedal get millimeters from the pavement at 40 mph multiple times.
Sort of related is how people in cars react in this situation when the bike is going roughly the same speed as traffic: a car will often pull alongside the rider and then brake or slow down to match the bikes speed before passing. It should happen just like passing a car where you wait for an opening and then make the pass but instead there's this weird parallel sequence before making the pass.
I had a lady make a left onto the road I was on this morning & swing wide beyond her lane (i was in the bike lane)
her windows were open so I yelled "hellllloooooo!?!"
luckily it was all curb cut to my right so i could swerve wide without issues onto the driveway aprons
she was apologetic at the next intersection
but geez...i know it was early with few vehicles out, but maybe a little more coffee was needed before heading out to try to stay inside the lines?
I was commuting home last week, and some guy on an e-bike asked me to pull through. I politely told him, he was the one with the battery and continued to suck wheel. I guess he was pissed that he couldn't drop me. Although, if I had done a pull on the front, I probably would have popped after a minute on the front at the pace we were going.
That encounter with a bike on the outside of the fog line while he rumbled down his 12’ wide lane on the Seward highway got high angle so jacked up he could spot the words “Pedialite” printed on the bottle as he went by at 50+ the next time he saw them.
Really fucked his life up.
Nalgene? Always that a real Alaskan like you only drank Light Beer when driving.
I don't ride bikes on the road but that doesn't mean I support physical assault and intimidation just because it doesn't affect me. Maybe you're also the type of person who also assaults people face-to-face when doling out parenting advise but it's far more likely you use the relative anonymity of your vehicle to shield your abusive behavior. Seek help.
Because resorting to facile spelling corrections is totally ninja, is that it tough guy?
I suspect that HA is only upset due to the fact that this episode must have thrown a wrench in his brake pad preservation routine.
God dammit, don’t you make me use my fucking brake pads!
Those are the same people who ride your ass in the left lane (as you're passing people of course!) and when you change into the right lane to let them pass will pull up next to you and the subconsciously match your speed until you get stuck behind a truck. The same people who will pull up next to a semi or sit off its left rear corner, terrified to pass it. When they finally get around it they floor it until they get to the next truck, so you can't pass them.
Bla bla...Use the fkn BIKE PATH.
We get it. You once saw a bike rider not use a bike path. Therefore they are all morons. Nothing about your story is an issue if the drivers are able to maintain their lane.
In other news, I watched 10+ vehicles speed through a residential neighborhood, fail to signal and fail to stop at a stop sign with kids and bike riders around. Therefore all car drivers are morons.
Why can't everyone just get along?
Great meme, that appears to be someone riding in the flat lands on a rural rode. You’re stupid but you knew that

A total of 843 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles in 2019. This represents a 3 percent decrease from the 868 bicyclist deaths that occurred in 2018. Although bicyclist deaths have decreased 16 percent since 1975, they have increased 36 percent since reaching their lowest point in 2010. Most bicyclist deaths in 2019 (90 percent) were those ages 20 and older. Deaths among bicyclists younger than 20 have declined 90 percent since 1975, while deaths among bicyclists 20 and older have tripled. In every year since 1975, many more male than female bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles. The decline since 1975 among female bicyclists (34 percent) was about 3 times the decline among male bicyclists (12 percent).

If nothing else, Highangle is definitely showing that he's the go-to guy for beta when planning a cycle touring trip to Alaska - if I'm ever heading that way, I'll definitely get in touch
