Browns got a useful player from the Pats in Winovich. He can rush the passer. Pats generally demand that their OLB's be very solid setting he edge the run (he isn't) and have some skill in coverage (he doesn't). But he will get sacks.

Interesting.
Rumor has it the Browns are setting up a meeting with DeShaun Watson after he meets with the Saints and Panthers today.
Yeah, the lulz keep coming - https://nfltraderumors.co/browns-set...atson-tuesday/
If they meet with Watson and don’t pull that off how do they stick with Baker after courting DW?

I'm not sure what the Jags are thinking.
$180M spent on day one, all for a bunch of average (at best) and declining players. Foye Olukon and Foley Fatukasi...who are these guys?
And the Dolphins sign Teddy Bridgewater as backup for Tua which means he'll play at least half the season while Tua is injured.
While I agree that it makes it one dicey situation, Andrew Berry has been clear about two things since the season ended:
1) We are moving forward with the assumption that Baker is our QB; and
2) We will evaluate all possibilities to upgrade each and every position.
Knowing how Baker operates better with a chip on his shoulder he should expect that they will look to upgrade at QB, and if they don't he'll go out there and try his ass off to prove he's the guy and he deserves a massive deal. That's a win for both parties.
I don't think you can walk on eggshells when you're in win-now mode with any player, and that includes QB. I like Baker and believe he can be the guy, but I sure did like that Cavs parade in 2016 too and would love to fly up for one for the Browns.
NFL Network says Watson is meeting with the Browns today and will meet with the Falcons tomorrow.
I'd take Matty Ice in CLE too.
ETA: Browns release Center JC Tretter who has started all but one game in his 9 years with the Browns and is part of one of the best O lines in football. I'm not so sure I like that move one bit.
Honey Badger and Myles Jack on the market. Their agents must be rubbing their hands together.
Did the cap go back up after the pandemic readjustment? I’m hard pressed to think of another time when teams were just burning money like this.
Yes the cap is going up and more so next year it’s supposed to go way up with another monster TV package in the works.
Trotter was not overpaid. He was one of the best centers in the league on a tradable contract. Why did they suddenly cut him? I predict a big free agent signing that was driven my the meddling owner. Allen Robinson?
Listening to CLE sportstalk and this move has everyone absolutely dumbfounded. The Browns aren't in cap hell so I think all signs point to ISBD's point above.
Did Jimmy Haslam get tired of letting adults and professionals run the franchise?
the Pack. 'restructured' the four big contracts that were Much fanfare a year ago
( Clark, Backtieri, Jones, Rogers.
seems to me like the cap is more an excuse to cut veteran players whose 'production' may be in decline (Z'DSmith) )
NFL. the game to play football games.
we still love our gladiators...
good luck. ( skiJ )
The Pats just traded Shaq Mason, one of the better guard in the league who is on a similar deal to Trotter, to the Bucs for a 5th. Pats reporters and fans are dumfounded. Only makes sense if multiple expensive additions are coming. They had better ways of making cap space than trading one of their better players for a near-meaningless draft pick.
It seems like the middle class is hurting in the NFL. Lots of $$ for stars and lots of rookie deals to be had. Not so much anything else
Belichick once said that it's better to get rid of a player a year too soon than a year too late. They traded Richard Seymour (who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer) when he was still playing great football at age 30. But that was for a 1st round pick. They trade Logan Mankins for a 4th after 5 straight all pro seasons, but he was older and disgruntled. They tried to trade Gronk to the Lions, but Brady threatened to take his ball and go home. Trading Shaq for a 5th round pick is different because it's about dumping salary, not gaining an asset while a guy still has value. He did look like he'd gained some weight last season, but he was still playing well.
With both Mason and Trotter it seems like the teams could have gotten a better return if they were patient. Neither team is in salary cap hell. It makes me think both teams have some significant signings/ trades coming.
Baker looking pretty despondent on teh twitters this evening, it looks like it's over. Or getting very dramatic.

Josh McDaniels was apparently enamored with Baker in the ‘18 draft, maybe Carr ends up the Brownie starter?

I'd love to be an agent right now, how do I get into the business?
OTOH, if I were Bobby I'd be getting in touch with all these players with new contracts and checking if they need a Lambo.
Bobby must be closely monitoring the Titans’ offseason moves licking his chops.
Is he limited to Titans players? I'm not sure how these dealerships are set up, but it would seem geographically the Panthers, Falcons, Indy, and the Striped Ones might be in play.
So Trubisky is gonna play in a division with Burrow, Watson and Jackson… that should go well.
I think he'll be an upgrade from Ben's final years.
That’s how I’ll always remember Ben.
Yeah I thought that was a bit harsh.
Steelers fans. Yuck.
Mason might have more swagger than we realize. He is banging Genie Bouchard after all - https://instagram.com/geniebouchard?...dium=copy_link
