No, I think it's a lot more about it being her MOTHER, not that she's white or privileged or happened to be born in a first-world country. It's her mother, she knows her, she loves her, and she's relieved and happy that her mother is being cared for. Latent racism? Sure, and I'm sure that no person of color would prefer the people in Africa would get vaccinated over members of their own family? Blaming everything on racism is bullshit. Received the second dose of the vaccine (Pfizer) yesterday. From what I have read about 50% have fever, myalgia, arthralgia, headache after the second dose. I lucked out, other than a slightly sore arm, I am asymptomatic following the injection.

As I posted earlier, my wife, an LCMHC (therapist), had a similar dilemma. However she has a few clients that she sees in person for legit reasons. She took the vaccine when it was offered (the state called her). Our cell reception has not improved, so I question if the vaccine is working.Quote:

Second dose of Pfizer yesterday. Woke up this morning with chills and minor headache. Hope that’s the extent of the reaction.
Add a mild fever and myalgia to the list. Still happy I received it so quickly.
Given that I spend a substantial portion of my work week being coughed on by anti-maskers, I'm pretty excited that I should be able to get a vax in the next few weeks.

4 people in my son's special operations surgical team group--not sure which specialties but at least one is a doctor--are declining the vaccine. I'm surprised the Air Force gives them a choice--especially since flu shots are mandatory.
(Each team is surgeon, ER doc, nurse anesthesia, icu nurse, surgical tech, respiratory tech)

He went to the military med school in Bethesda. (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences). He says his class was heavily Mormon. He doesn't talk politics much with the folks around him. Wife had Pfizer #2 and no adverse effects. Several other nurses/docs that work with her had #2 and some pretty serious side effects from fatigue, nausea, etc. Our top thoracic surgeon was out of commission for a couple of days.
My daughter in PA school had #1 Moderna, became nauseous and fatigued for a day, but OK now.
i get my first round of pfizer tomorrow. will update with any side effects but am fucking ready for this thing.
wifey and i both did novavax trial, i'm pretty sure she got the real deal and i got the placebo. oh well. we can unmask after we get the booster on feb 1, and then get pfizer if either of us are in the control group (1 in 3 chance).
Meanwhile Sacramento is still trying to figure out how to give the vaccine and to whom first. They've had months to figure this out. More meeting planned. While I get the idea that the most vulnerable populations (ie POC) should be prioritized, wasting time trying to be sure everything is absolutely, totally, precisely, completely fair kills everybody, especially POC. And they're still hung up on trying to convince every last person to get the shots when there isn't nearly enough vaccine for all the people who don't need convincing, and won't be for a long time. (Maybe we need a great businessman to figure this out; I know one who'll be leaving his current position in 8 days who might be interested.)
I'm getting absolutely fed up with Newsom's failure to prepare to administer vaccines. Currently at ~800k shots administered out of 2.9 million doses received. And just yesterday they announced the locations that they will begin setting up mass vaccination clinics. That is appalling. They should have figured this out in November and rolled out in December ready to start when the first doses landed. Between the 2.7M infected and 2.9M doses, we could have 5.6M people walking around with some level of immunity, but we don't because that wouldn't be fair. Now is not the moment to find the most woke solution, it is the time to grab whomever they can get and stick them. I am still very much of the opinion that any vaccine left in the freezer at the close of business every day is a failure. We are failing, but I hope that will start to change, and soon.Quote:
