Heard on NPR today--the Pfizer vaccine is very poor at preventing infection--but not hospitalization--a few months after vaccination in 5-11 year olds. 12 and older are much better protected. Probably because 11 and younger is where the dose drops. Considering that and considering the problem now with getting approval for 4 and under it seems like it might take a while to figure out the dose regimen for kids, assuming that Covid will be with us for some time to come.
Goddamit, I got a bunch of N95's and KF94's and I intend to use them, pandemic or no pandemic. (Maybe I should save them for allergy season if I have to go to Sacramento, and for smoke season.)Quote:

Community tests are coming back at less than 5% positive. Local mandates are coming down everywhere except some schools here tomorrow. Last night I relocated a large supply of KN95 masks from by the front door to an upper kitchen cabinet. Still have about a dozen different color masks I reuse available.. I had a physical in the fall and my blood pressure was 120/80, which is pretty much where it has always been.
I had Covid in January. It knocked me out for a week.
I recently had a non-covid related check up again and my blood pressure was something insane like 170/90.
The doctor couldn't believe it. He thought I had white coat anxiety because I don't look like someone who has late state hypertension.
Now I'm wondering if it is long Covid related.
One blood pressure in the clinical setting has almost no clinical meaning. Take it at home, after being seated for five minutes, with an appropriate sized cuff. Don't get all worked up......see this scenario play out literally every day I'm at work. Fix your brain on "long covid" and you'll funnel yourself right into it. While you may have a blood pressure that is above JNC-8 or AHA guidelines, you have not yet met that criteria with a single elevated BP in the clinical setting.Quote:

CT chest, while not really indicated, would answer your question about post covid lung pathology. You may have some mild pneumonitis, but I kinda doubt it. Lung ultrasound is also very easy, immediate feedback diagnostic. I do lung ultrasound on pretty much every covid patient I see both in the ED and clinic setting. I did one on myself every few days when I had covid. Offers real-time feed back of lung involvement. Cheap, no radiation, super fun. Drive to Townsend and I'll do one on you, just for fun. I did intervals again for the first time in 2 weeks on Saturday. 5 minute threshold blocks. Only got my HR up to 160. Again, started slow and warmup felt like crap. Mid way through the workout I felt really good. Afterwards I felt pretty good for a while. Followed with cold plunge > sauna cycles. Last night chest pain again. Today cough and tightness again.
If your exercise tolerance/pulmonary function is good enough to reach previous thresholds, I wouldn't worry about it. If you had definitive post-covid lung/cardiac pathology, you would not be doing intervals at threshold. You could get what I call a "therapeutic CT chest" which is really not at all indicated, just to lay the pathology question to rest. Nobody would order it though, as it is not indicated. Or go get pulmonary function test, or just give yourself time.Quote:
