Hate to hop on this derailed train but can't help but comment that there are cheaters of all backgrounds and academic status. I had some starting football players in legit tough classes who did the work, group projects, etc. I also know first hand that folks in greek organizations, fraternities and sororities leverage upper classmen and alums to help them with old tests, papers previously written etc.. There's also the fact that in the MBA program I was in there were people on my teams who had interns doing some of their legwork. I also worked for a firm after grad school where one of the primary owners had content specialists actually writing her kids college papers.. no fucking shit.. So, it's probably not fair to single out athletes for those kinds of shenanigans. =
Ya same argument, wealthy people have $$$$ resources to game the system just as much as athletes do.... starting with prep school, SAT exam training, even paying people to take it for them.. My kids just finished that gambit recently.. Still totally happening.. Then there's the big donation if all else fails..
And to me that's a gazillion times more unfair than some low income kid from a family where nobody got to go to college working their ass off from age 5 though high school to get good enough to EARN a college team spot..
Then there's the "Arch Manning" where both rich and good athlete.. but that still didn't come as easy as mommy and daddy paying for it..
One of daughters had a college English class where one guy(football player) showed up the first day and she never saw him again. When grades were posted on the grade board outside the teacher’s office, he got an A. Had a roommate in college who never went to class, glanced thru the reading night before the test and passed the class. Ended up taking bar exams for various people later on before they tightened up security. I worked with some people lately who claimed to be engineers and PHDs, etc. After a few months I wondered how they had even gotten out of high school, much less passed a test of any kind. Agree most people aren’t all that bright but are awfully good at faking it. My 2 cents.
Let's get back on track please. Athletes aren't dropping dead like flies from getting vaccinated. That myth is busted.
It's fucked up man. I know of several parents who have written essays or have had their kids essays written by pros for entrance into college. It's pathetic. Then there are the other items you identify in addition to the early decision shit (I think that's what it's called) when the kid commits to XYZ school early and the parents pony up first term tuition at that point. The whole college acceptance system is gamed by the wealthy all the time...IMO it's intentional.
A lot of what you guys are talking about--the wealthy gaming the system with SAT test takers, essay writers, donations, etc--really only applies to the top tier private colleges. (With athletes it's a different story.) With most schools just about anyone who has the potential to graduate can get in--or get into a different school just as good. IF they can afford it.
Americans are largely ignorant yet arrogant about their intelligence at the same time.

I don't disagree with any of that. The system is gamed for those that know the system and the money to make moves. However, I would like to point out that those that prepare and save are prime sources of income for these schools versus those that either couldn't or didn't save. More to the point, had I bought a boat instead of a 529, it's likely I would qualify for additional aid and pay less.
Lost two more friends to this shit. Both anti-vaxxers. No comprende.
Our regional hospital system, Ballad Health, had 773 employees out last Friday. Positivity rate was 38.3% system wide.
Well at least now they won't get covid.
Sorry man.
Condolences. That sucks to lose your friends.

Shit TNK, that’s rough. Condolences.
Two of America's top epidemiologist think China's zero COVID strategy is a huge mistake. Mainly because with Omicron, it is not possible and their vaccine doesn't work against Omicron. Their healthcare system will not be able to handle the onslaught that is about to take place.

You just said two things that contradict each other. Is zero covid a mistake or is there healthcare system about to be overwhelmed?
Is this how you argue court cases?
