To Vaccinate or Not---The Rat Flu Odyssey Continues

Day 6.
Head cold is gone.
What the hell?
Last time I had Delta before vaccines were available I thought I was going to die and spent 9 months with long covid.
I'm so fucking happy right now!
Zero breathing issues.
I got covid phemonia last time.
Bad news is I got a friend sick.
We skied together on Tuesday then had dinner.
She tested on Thursday morning negative before Thanksgiving dinner so hopefully she didn't get her extended family sick.
She tested yesterday" Friday" and was positive.
I let those that were around me know I had covid the second I found out.
The other family " 2 kids" both had covid in September and didn't get it again from me thankfully.
My wife is still testing negative here.
I'm isolating and wearing a N95 when in close contact with her.
I was reading that I'm still infectious until day 10 after testing positive?

Day 8 and feeling great 👍
Slight congestion which is nothing to me.
Wife is now sick on day 4.
She tested positive yesterday.
At least she doesn't have to isolate in our house since I gave it to her.
She is mad at me so I won't mention that fact right now.

Yeah can confirm. I felt slightly tired a few hrs after novavax but pretty much zero side effects, similar to the flu vax I’ve occasionally gotten over the years.

Much better than the mRNA side effects, which although not severe definitely made my body feel weird for 24 hrs.

Only challenge was actually getting novavax at CVS. Website and automated phone tree said Yes this location has it. In reality their supply was erratic over the last two weeks. Even when I got a call back from pharmacy assuring me they had it in stock, I drove there immediately and turns out they’d run out three days prior.

I received the Pfizer vax about three weeks ago with virtually no side effects. Even my arm had no soreness. I was a little tired that evening but I also worked out pretty good prior to the shot. Next day, no issues.

Yes I eventually got it at CVS.

That wastewater data would be useful if you could drill down to county level, but having a few huge Western states one single color is kinda useless.

California has improved its wastewater reporting, too, at least for some counties. I saw that some data is fairly refined. For example, I saw that each sewershed in the South Bay was reporting covid, rsv, flu. Some include noravirus and possibly other detectable pathogens. There was also an oversimplified assessment of data change over recent time. I can’t seem to find the state’s interactive website on my phone.

Great for pushing unwarranted angst and getting internet clicks. Vax bad for heart very very rarely. Covid really bad for heart a lot lot more. According to the article. Nothing new.

Not a scientist, but filtering out the media fearporn and looking at the study - the conclusion is they measured a small increased incidence of some rare conditions, but further studies would be needed to confirm. Looks to me like this study design can and does find signals as small as a few cases per million. Good to know, but keep the perspective that this vaccination prevents a few deaths per thousand.

Looking at their data tables, one could also say that vaccination reduces the risk of some rare conditions. But that's a less dramatic headline. That said, it does look to me like there's a definite signal for myocarditis and pericarditis with all the vaccines studied.

Some results seem kind of odd. E.g. the Astra Zeneca vaccine shows 6.9x risk for pericarditis following the 3rd shot, but only 1.3x after the first and second shot. It's tough to dream up a biological mechanism to explain that. So maybe there's another explanation unrelated to vaccination.

I'd be interested to see their data split out by country. Specifically Australia and New Zealand, as these countries had low levels of covid infections. Without seeing a bunch of studies, and reviewing their designs, it seems there's a possibility that apparent increased risks from vaccination are actually increased risks from infection. That is to say infection is known to raise these risks by 35x. So, since there was a pandemic during vaccination, it's possible the heart issues detected at 2-3x levels are mostly or entirely due to infections that coincided with vaccination. This study doesn't address that issue at all, so maybe they didn't consider it.

I mean, its also entirely possible that the opposite is true too? That risk of vax has been presented as risk of infection.

Specifically, the pharma companies choice to count those who are recently vaxxed as unvaxed, and to have no category of data collection for the recently vaxxed, has permanently fucked up the data for these mass human trials, counting people who did have reactions to the vax in the short term, as experiencing those things from being unvaxed.

Or am I just crazy, and the ignore function is the only way for a reasonable person to answer this?

Maybe the brain disorders are from Elon Musk putting his chip from Neuralink in the vax, perhaps if you get 6 boosters if you can control your mouse just by thinking and cruise TGR at hyperspeed.

Have a friend and his wife who are both vaxxed to the max. Mid-60's. Got da 'vid last week for the first time. Kicked them badly, pretty much bed ridden, with typical first round symptoms.

Seeing a huge rise in incidents in this part of the world.

Another problem with a study like this is that it compares the rates of these diseases in vaccinated people with "expected" rates, rather than a comparison with contemporary unvaccinated people. Expected rates of things like myocarditis are fairly meaningless since it depends on these diseases being reported and counted. .When you're actively looking for cases you're going to find more of them than if you're depending on them to have been reported in a context in which there was no particular concern about their frequency.

Unfortunately, there is no link to the study (and I'm too lazy to find it) but was the frequency increased for all 13 diseases? Were there any where the frequency was decreased? In other words, were the observed increases the results of statistical variation which would disappear if the rates of all 13 diseases combined? (I actually do think that the vaccines do have these rare complications, although the exact degree of increased risk reported in the study is meaningless--taking it to the decimal is absurd. I don't like sloppy science.)

some western states have robust wastewater-covid models that are updated on a weekly basis. Data is collected from most all communities that are on a public wastewater system.

OR, NV, AZ, WY have pretty much ceased collecting wastewater data and/or reporting to the general public.

The way the news reported it last night (CBS affiliate) was really bad basically saying everything Q people have been warning.

They called it "long vax" comparing it to long Covid if not much worse. The said the spike proteins formed as a result of the vax were doing damage by causing mini blood clots and they could happen today or years from now.
