Trackhead said it.
Here is my take. If you are prone to anxiety or panic attack type things, wierd heartbeats/chest pain will trigger that and it spirals. Very common. I'm definitely in that category with family history of anxiety, my sister experienced debilitating panic attacks. Some benign things happen with my heart that are real and apparently genetic, but harmless. Dad and his bro have developed afib in late 70's. Daughter has benign valve issue being sorta monitored till she almost certainly grows out of it.
Virus can cause these wierd things to happen. Not just covids.
A lot of stuff can happen with your heart/chest that is completely harmless. And it is real. But the anxious mind blows it out of proportion.
When I was 20 I had a mitral valve prolapse diagnosis found because of wierd pre beats that gave me panic attack symptoms. Totally controlled and not debilitating but real.
Last time I went in for the full scan with a world renowned cardiologist (we have amazing doctors in Iowa) they couldn't find the mvp at all. Told me never to come back unless I have a heart attack or something.
So, I wouldn't 'panic' so to speak. And I would keep training. That is the best anti anxiety medication there is. And good for the heart.
I don't think "panic" or "anxiety" are the best words to use because it typically creates a defensive posture by the patient, for good reason. As the symptoms are real, and being experienced by the patient. But the key point is while the symptoms are real, they are not life threatening. That pesky autonomic nervous system can/does go haywire and creates havoc.
These presentations happen literally every day in a busy ED, we do the cardiac/neuro workup, negative. Bottom of the differential diagnosis is anxiety, after ruling out MI, PE, etc.....but non-life threatening etiologies must be considered, and more importantly, presented to the patient as a possibility.
Literally do this every day. Not saying original poster doesn't have some post covid issue, rather suggesting that non-post covid issue may be contributing to symptoms.
Trackhead spot on. Just sharing my experience, which is much less alarmist, and driven by 30 years of wierd shit happening in my chest that hasn't killed or slowed me down.

I can certainly understand the "it's anxiety" crowd. I have had anxiety at various levels in the past and it's been over a decade since I have had a panic attack. I'm certainly a bit stressed out right now with work and family stuff, but don't feel even close to panic attack level. I'm not convinced it's 100% anxiety related. If it does have something to do with covid it doesn't seem like there's any way to even really diagnose it at this point, so guess why even worry about it. I'm gonna keep exercising and hopefully it is just all in my head or whatever it is just goes away.
Go get the work-up, be your own pt advocate, and be done with it.
1. D-dimer (likely normal, see below)
2. Trop (likely normal, see below)
3. BNP (likely normal, as you can still exercise like a maniac without difficulty)
4. CRP (likely normal)
5. Holter (low hanging fruit, good test, likely normal)
6. Echo (low hanging fruit, likely normal, as you can still do intervals)
7. Cardiac MRI (likely not indicated, would require cardiology referral)
Come to Townsend, I'll order everything but the cardiac MRI tomorrow morning. All your results will be back before the weekend;)
Be well....I've been in your situation, ended up in ICU on blood thinners, stress echo, had bumped troponin after running up Snowbird three times before a night shift in my 30s. Abnormal EKG, etc. Turned into six months of anxiety. Ask Triungulate, I skied with him back then when I was dealing with it. Was all anxiety.
just because you mentioned it quite often...working out. You don't take any sort of pre-workout supplement drink or anything of the like do you? No energy drinks or supplements "to give you energy"?
Thanks dude! Greatly appreciated. If this flares up again I'll come to Townsend with Harry's ID and insurance card ;)
Think I'll do a spin on the trainer bike and go to the hot springs today. I think skiing some laps would be great but -40 wind chill today. I do enjoy having limbs and a face, so I guess skiing can way another day.

suppose to be working but I"m busy reading and posting on tgr wtf not good
so wrg, what track head said is spot on
I wish you the best and I'm hoping it is all much about nothing
getting advice on tgr not a good idea seeing a proctologist to check you out a good idea spend the money get better insurance just do it
I'm sitting here pretending to work and handing out free advice on ski town living and the what not so why not give personal health advice? everyone is good at it
my cannula has blood on it since I have my typical bloody nose it's just part of the territory I suppose I boosted myself to 2.5L of o2 last night cause why why not even though they said 2L is what I'm suppose to be on
I think I'm dying every few weeks it's a bitch
then I go see my dr and they look at me and say I'm a model of great health for someone like me full blood work ups ekg I don't even know what they do anymore I just do what they say had a sonogram and some other cat scan in December
sunday was a great day huge road ride was chugging along nicely and saw my hr at 164 and then 167 I freaked out pulled back and lowered to into the 150's but I felt fine
panic attacks are normal part of life for me now get used to it
you can fill your life with a pulse ox meter and check it often get a blood pressure cuff and wear your hr monitor when you sleep and fuck download the shit and check it out I've had some weird ass shit attached to my body to record everything and wires hanging out of my chest (fucking weird) and at the end of the day there isn't much wrong with me
WRG, get to the cardiologist. Could be nothing or could be something. Maybe just an ulcer or bad indigestion but if money isnt for your health, what the hell good is it?
Hookers and blow. Carbon bikes and new skis that are 3mm different then the pair you currently have.
Hence the “TGR Home Heart Check” program being developed here in this covid thread.
In a normal country the price of that cardiac MRI and echocardiogram would be shared amongst millions of taxpayers. Along with the blood tests and Holter and stress test and then a discussion with a cardiologist.
But freedom isn’t free.
You know what is though? The “TGR Home Heart Check” program!
How about using the word/term 'Stress' ?
There's a lot less stigma associated with the word 'anxiety' than there was even just three years ago...
still, I think old guys still don't like the idea that Stress can threaten one's physical health...
generous offer, trackhead - Thank you... !
WRG - I do agree with those who are advising cardiology -
There is value in ruling some things Out.
Otherwise, this can lead to something serious.
Good luck ! And
my thanks to those who have responded to this with serious, genuine concern...
Good luck ! skiJ
The one missing puzzle piece in this is family history. I have no knowledge about it since I was adopted. Maybe my bio dad had/has heart disease? Who the fuck knows.
Sanofi is claiming 100% effectiveness against severe covid with its new vaccine.
Maybe I'll get it as a booster instead of Moderna III?
Quote:
Used as a booster dose after one of the other available coronavirus vaccines, the Sanofi-GSK shot increased antibody levels by 18- to 30-fold. The companies intend to submit the vaccine for authorization to regulatory authorities in the United States and Europe, they said on Wednesday.
so quicker than my prediction
and the MRI requests are triaged of course - so viral myocarditis is gonna be done faster than chronic shoulder pain
and if some Canadian wants that MRI done tomorrow rather than waiting they can pay $1500
As far as the cost of insurance--the AMA recently voted it down again. 47--53 which shocked a lot of people that it was that close. Meanwhile the dinosaurs keep dying off, most docs are employed and don't own their own practices--so the next vote may be in favor. A hopeful sign, although single payer without an end to fee for service will bankrupt the country, if we're not bankrupt already.
Of course the AMA's endorsement doesn't guarantee Congress will do it, but it can't hurt.
For the record, I've never been a member, but my kid has been a med school and then resident delegate.
