Canada Will Pitch ‘Safe Tourism’ to Travelers Once Borders Open, Canada’s tourism industry was down approximately 66%, or $5.3 billion, in the second quarter. Can't post story because behind Bloomberg paywall.
In 2018 10.5 million Canadians traveled south across the Blaine, Lynden, Sumas and Point Roberts points of entry (south of Vancouver).
Canada announced extended family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents can now seek permission to travel to Canada.
“This includes people in a long-term exclusive dating relationship and their dependent children, adult children, grandchildren, siblings and grandpartents. Examples of extended family members in exclusive dating relationships include fiancé(e)s, romantic partners, boyfriends, girlfriends or any other couple in an intimate, loving relationship of at least this year.”
Students studying in Canada also are now allowed entry.
3,441 Americans were rejected attempting to enter Canada for non-essential reasons in September.
Since the border closed in March, 22,414 foreign nationals have been rejected by Canada — 87% of them from the U.S. Sightseeing and shopping were the main reasons given that were not good enough to gain entry.
