Friendliest city I ever visited, Saskatoon. Beautiful university campus too. Buddy is more likely than not mennonite or some such derivative. Salt of the earth folk, but a bit conservative and not what one would call worldly, even if well travelled. Sorta our version of an Idaho mormon I suppose. Means well and will give a stranger the shirt off his back, but most don't fair well over their lifetime with sharp farm equipment. Gentle encouragement, a bit of community-based guilt, break some bread, and he will most likely come around.
