Any geniuses here want to weigh in on whether my parents should leave and try to reenter canada in a few days? three hours on the phone with ottawa and the border decision is final and no one can do shit. But they are allowed to leave. They wouldn't want it to jeopardize their future entries but also weren't planning on spending two weeks in a dreary airbnb staring at the traffic.
I can't figure out where the error was with their paperwork on ArriveCan, but they didn't like my birth certificate so I have another thing in common with Barack Obama.
that sounds pretty fucked up NO idea
I did just warn a tree planter headed to Stewart site seeing
DO NOT cross the unprotected border into AK
cuz there is customs on the way back
It shouldn't. The website with the quarantine guidance specifically mentions that you are able to leave the country.

Wouldn't the next variant be Epsilon, the next latin letter?
Or is the media going for maximum shock value here? DELTA PLUS!
So much for freedumb

Epsilon? We’re already up to Lambda. Guess the rest were duds
I mentioned Dr. Moran before. Here he explains a lot about the Lambda variant, but also the differences between variants, variants of interest, and variants of concern

It doesn't look like their demands were out of line with similar jobs. 2% annual raise, some paid meals, improvements to their grievance process, and more flexibility wrt paid/unpaid leaves.
Though, I heard it's only a four year contract, so they'll be back to the table in a matter of months.
I hope they're in a better mood on Monday.
So that was 4 yrs from when it expired in 2018 not 4 yrs from now ?
there is always the usual posturing, threats, breaking off talks ect but I guess we missed all that cuz of lockdown and go straight to a strike/ settlement pretty quickly
some of them would have been working to process the goods that were still going back and forth for the last 18 months cuz we are the second biggest trading partner with the USA
you know, after those murders thieves and rapists to your immediate south
Someone tell Trudeau that everyone in the border agency is actually a Quebecer, that'll fix it.
jokes!
I believe so, but not certain. It would make sense though, because the basis of negotiated pay raises is to (at the very least) keep pace with the rising cost of living. 2% for four years, but spread out over seven years would be pretty crap.
Also guessing they'll get that paid out as a lump sum, so they should be.
You didn't mention what their status is, are they cdn ex-pats or duals? or are they just American?
Worked for the feds the last 2 winters. Got some retro pay after we signed the contract for 2019 but thats already expired when we signed. 2020 negotiations start now. I guess in a yr or 3 i'll get more retro pay. No doubt phoenix pay sustem will screw it up. A pay system the feds bought meant for mon-fri/9-5 has no business encompassing all federal workers. I have ot, night premium, weekend premium, stat day benefits to figure if they make a mistake. Phoenix is still fixing over half a million case errors all the while new ones arise. One guy got his summer lay off and they continued paying him to the tune of $20k. Dumb hillbilly didnt come back last winter thinking he could get away with it. Chances are it'll go back and forth through phoenix pay system as they request payback in the wrong amount only to be "corrected" and a further request. Thatll go on and on for up to 3 or 4 years. When its all said and done the time he puts into negotiating, crunching nimbers, fixing errors and responding there's a good chance he could have just worked and made tge same $ without the multiple headaches and still have the 20k

IBM was the contractor on the Phoenix fiasco, having the IBM logo stamped on my ass I've paid attention but not heard one bad word said about the mother corp
Classic cushy govt contract. Theyre on the hook for nothing it seems. Rumour has it as soon as they get enough sorted theyre going to ditch phoenix. Im sure the replacement will be smooth as silk

BTW I just learned that the reason this guy did not get vaccinated is because he'd already had covid last year. Not to belabor the dipshitedness of that move, but just to point out: a very healthy guy got RE-INFECTED, and very nearly died!
Fuck, just get your shots already, morons (antivaxers)!
Fact

The "God willing" finish was about all I needed to know.
The time has officially come. Americans now streaming into The Great White North again.
